The sun was shining brightly over Dodger Stadium, and the air buzzed with excitement as families of the players gathered for the annual Dodgers Family Day. It was a day of games, food, and laughter—a rare chance for everyone to relax and enjoy the stadium in a more personal way.
You and Jack arrived hand in hand, the small bump of your growing belly hidden beneath your Dodgers jersey. The two of you had been looking forward to today for weeks, not just because of the festivities, but because you had planned something extra special: a gender reveal.
Jack had no idea what was coming. You’d worked with the team’s event coordinators to make it happen, and everything was ready to go. As you walked onto the field, Jack’s teammates greeted you both warmly.
The afternoon passed in a blur of laughter and games. Jack joined his teammates in a friendly kickball match against their kids, and you watched from the sidelines.
Eventually, the moment you’d been waiting for arrived. One of the event coordinators called everyone’s attention, inviting the families to gather near home plate. Jack looked at you curiously as you took his hand and led him toward the mound, where a special setup awaited.
Jack turned to you, his brow furrowed. "What’s going on?"
You grinned, your heart pounding with excitement. "You’ll see."
On the mound was a baseball perched on a small stand, along with a bat. The ball was custom-made, filled with colored powder that would reveal your baby’s gender when hit. You had kept it a secret, wanting this moment to be as much of a surprise for Jack as it was for everyone else.
The crowd buzzed with anticipation as Jack was handed the bat. He looked at you, his eyes wide. "Are we…?"
You nodded, barely able to contain your excitement. "It’s time to find out if you’re going to be a girl dad or a boy dad."
Jack’s jaw dropped, and then he broke into a grin. "You’re kidding me."
"Nope," you said, stepping back to give him room. "Now, show us your best swing, Daddy."
The crowd cheered as Jack took his place, adjusting his stance like he was at bat during a game. His teammates shouted playful advice.
"Don’t miss, Jack!" Mookie teased, earning laughs from everyone.
"You better make contact!" Freddie added.
Jack shot them a mock glare before focusing on the ball. With a deep breath, he wound up and swung the bat with precision.
CRACK!
The ball burst open on impact, releasing a cloud of vibrant pink powder into the air. The crowd erupted into cheers and applause as the realization hit.
"It’s a girl!" someone shouted.
Jack stood frozen for a moment, staring at the pink cloud as if he couldn’t believe it. Then, he dropped the bat and turned to you, his eyes glistening with emotion.
"A girl," he whispered, his voice thick. "I’m going to be a girl dad."
You nodded, your own tears threatening to spill over as Jack closed the distance between you in two long strides. He wrapped you in a tight embrace, lifting you off the ground as the crowd continued to cheer.
"Are you happy?" you asked, laughing through your tears as he set you down.
"Happy doesn’t even begin to cover it," Jack said, cupping your face in his hands. "I’m over the moon. We’re having a little girl, Y/N."
His teammates and their families gathered around, congratulating you both and snapping photos of the moment. Mookie’s daughter tugged on Jack’s jersey, looking up at him with a big grin.
"Girls are the best, Uncle Jack," she said confidently.
Jack laughed, scooping her up. "I believe you, kiddo."
The rest of the afternoon was filled with celebration. The team surprised you with a tiny Dodgers jersey that said “Baby Flaherty” on the back, and Jack spent the rest of the day talking about all the things he couldn’t wait to do with his daughter: teaching her to pitch, taking her to her first game, and maybe even bringing her to Family Day one day.
As the sun set over Dodger Stadium, painting the sky in hues of pink and orange, you and Jack stood together near the pitcher’s mound. He had his arm around you, his hand resting protectively over your belly.
"Today was perfect," Jack said, pressing a kiss to your temple.
"It really was," you agreed, leaning into him.
Jack looked down at you, his eyes full of love and determination. "I promise you, Y/N. I’m going to be the best dad to our little girl. She’s going to know how much she’s loved every single day."
Tears welled up again as you nodded. "I already know you will, Jack. She’s lucky to have you."
And as you stood there, surrounded by the love of your family, friends, and the team, you knew that your little girl was already so deeply cherished.
