It was a crisp, sunny afternoon in Los Angeles, and the energy in your house felt lighter than usual. The hum of the city buzzed faintly outside, but your focus was entirely on the little white stick in your hand. Two pink lines stared back at you, confirming what you already suspected.

You were pregnant.

A flood of emotions washed over you — excitement, nervousness, joy, and a twinge of anxiety. How would Mookie react? The two of you had talked about kids before, but you weren’t sure he expected this now. The Dodgers were about to go to the Postseason and you didnt want him to be distracted or thrown off. Still, you knew he loved surprises, and this one was going to be unforgettable.

After brainstorming ideas, you decided to keep it simple yet meaningful. You ordered a tiny baby Dodgers onesie online, with yours and his last name on the back as well as the number 50 and when it arrived, you wrapped it up in a small gift box. You planned to give it to him that evening after dinner.

A couple of days later Mookie walked into the house, fresh from a night game, his Dodgers duffel slung over his shoulder. His smile lit up the room the moment he saw you.

“Hey, baby,” he greeted, leaning down to kiss your forehead. “What’s with that big smile? Something good happen today?”

You shrugged playfully, trying to mask your nerves. “Maybe. How was the game?”

“Same old, same old,” he said, dropping his bag and kicking off his sneakers. “But it’s better now that I’m here with you.”

You grinned and reached for his hand. “I made your favorite tonight. Spaghetti and meatballs.”

His eyes lit up. “You spoil me. Let me wash up real quick.”

Dinner was warm and filled with laughter, as always. Mookie told you stories from the field, mimicking his teammates’ antics, and you couldn’t help but giggle at his impressions. When the plates were cleared, you decided it was time.

“Hey, before we watch a movie, I have something for you,” you said, your voice steady despite the butterflies in your stomach.

Mookie raised an eyebrow, intrigued. “A surprise? For me? What’s the occasion?”

“No occasion. Just… open it.”

You handed him the small gift box, and he tilted his head, flashing you a curious smile before carefully peeling back the wrapping paper. He opened the lid, and for a moment, he just stared.

His hands pulled out the tiny onesie, and his eyes darted to the words printed on it: Future Dodger.

The realization hit him like a fastball. His eyes widened, and his mouth opened, but no words came out. He looked at you, then back at the onesie, and then back at you again.

“Wait… are you—?”

You nodded, tears brimming in your eyes. “I’m pregnant.”

For a second, he just sat there, stunned. Then, with a whoop of pure joy, he jumped up, pulling you into his arms and spinning you around.

“Baby, are you serious? We’re having a baby?!”

“Yes, Mookie! We’re having a baby!”

He set you down gently, his hands cupping your face as he pressed a long, sweet kiss to your lips. When he pulled back, his eyes were glistening.

“This is the best news I’ve ever gotten in my life,” he said, his voice thick with emotion. “You’re going to be an amazing mom. I can’t believe it… I’m going to be a dad!”

His excitement was infectious, and soon you were both laughing and crying in each other’s arms. Mookie knelt down, resting his hands on your stomach.

“Hi, little one,” he said softly, his voice filled with wonder. “It’s your dad. I can’t wait to meet you. You’ve already made me the happiest guy in the world.”

You ran your fingers through his hair, your heart swelling with love.

“I love you, Mookie.”

“I love you too, Y/N,” he replied, standing up to kiss you again. “And I love our baby already.”

The rest of the night was spent dreaming about the future — baby names, nursery ideas, and the many ways your life was about to change. Mookie couldn’t stop smiling, and every so often, he’d pull you close, his hand resting protectively over your belly.

In that moment, everything felt perfect, and you knew your little family was off to the sweetest start.
