The Dodger fans at Yankee stadium were electric, filled with the deafening cheers of the many Dodgers fans as they watched the final inning of the World Series. Your heart was pounding in your chest, your hands clutching onto Junebug’s arm as you watched Tommy on the field, his every move calculated and confident. This was it — the Dodgers were on the brink of winning the World Series, and Tommy had been a huge part of getting them to this moment.
Walker Beuhler threw the final strike, and Alex Verdugo swung and missed, and the Dodger fans in the crowd erupted in a roar that echoed throughout the stadium while the Yankee fans stood in silence. Yoi screamed, jumping up and down with Junebug as the two of you celebrated the Dodgers’ victory. The entire team rushed onto the field, piling onto each other in a massive celebration. You could barely contain your excitement; all you wanted was to run down to the field and into Tommy’s arms.
Junebug laughed as she grabbed your arm, holding you back. “Girl, I know you want to go run to him, but we’ve got to wait. Families aren’t allowed on the field yet!”
You pouted, bouncing on your toes, your eyes locked on Tommy as he celebrated with his teammates. “But I can’t just stand here! I want to be down there with him.”
Junebug smirked, nudging you. “Trust me, I get it. But just hold on a little longer! You’ll get your moment. And when you do, I want a front-row seat to this dramatic reunion.”
You laughed, glancing at your best friend, but your attention kept drifting back to the field. You watched as Tommy hugged his teammates, his face lit up with the pure joy of victory. Finally, after what felt like an eternity, stadium security began allowing family and friends onto the field.
“Now!” Junebug grinned, giving you a little push. “Go get your man!”
Without a second thought, you took off, your heart racing as you weaved your way through the crowd and onto the field. You spotted Tommy a few yards away, his back to you as he shook hands with his teammates. Yoi called out his name, your voice barely audible over the noise, but somehow, he heard you. Tommy turned, his eyes lighting up as soon as he saw you running toward him. A wide grin spread across his face, and he opened his arms just in time for you to throw yourself into them.
He caught you effortlessly, lifting you off the ground as you wrapped your arms around his neck, laughing breathlessly. “You did it!” you said, your voice filled with pride and excitement.
“We did it,” he murmured, pulling back just enough to look into your eyes. “And I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Before you could reply, he closed the distance between them, his lips capturing yours in a kiss that was filled with all the emotions of the moment. You melted into him, your fingers tangling in his hair as the world around them seemed to fade away. The noise of the crowd, the celebration, everything became a blur as they lost themselves in each other. The kiss grew deeper, his hands tightening around your waist as he pulled you even closer.
June, who had finally made her way onto the field, watched them with a mix of amusement and exasperation. She chuckled, nudging a nearby teammate who was also watching them with a smirk. “Should we break that up before they give the whole stadium a show?”
The teammate laughed, giving her a thumbs-up. “They deserve their moment, but yeah, maybe rein them in before it gets too heated.”
June grinned and walked over to them, tapping you on the shoulder. “Alright, lovebirds, you’re still in public, remember? Theres thousands of people here”
You and Tommy broke apart, both of you laughing as you both realized that you had indeed forgotten your surroundings. Tommy’s cheeks were flushed, and you couldn’t stop smiling, your heart still racing from the intensity of the kiss.
“You’re right,” Tommy said, rubbing the back of his neck with a sheepish grin. “Guess we got a little carried away.”
Junebug raised an eyebrow, crossing her arms with a playful smirk. “A little? I’d say you two were about two seconds away from making headline news for a different kind of reason.”
You laughed, leaning against Tommy, who wrapped an arm around your shoulders, pulling you in close. “Sorry, couldn’t help myself,” you said, glancing up at him with a mischievous smile. “He just won the World Series. How can I not celebrate?”
Tommy chuckled, pressing a quick kiss to your forehead. “I’ll never complain about that.”
They spent the next hour celebrating with the team, taking photos, laughing, and reveling in the victory. You stayed by Tommy’s side, beaming with pride as you watched him accept congratulations and share hugs with his teammates. Every now and then, he’d turn to you, giving you a look that made your heart flutter all over again. Junebug continued to stay nearby, cheering the two of you on, but also playfully keeping an eye on you two to make sure you guys didn’t get too carried away again.
As the celebrations began to wind down, Tommy took your hand, pulling you a little away from the group. The stadium lights cast a soft glow over them, and he looked at you with an expression that was both tender and full of excitement.
“I want you to know,” he said, his voice soft but full of emotion, “that none of this would mean as much if I didn’t have you here with me. You’ve been my rock, my support, and my motivation.”
You felt her eyes well up with tears, and you squeezed his hand, your heart overflowing with love. “I’m so proud of you, Tommy. You deserve all of this and more.”
He leaned down, giving you one last sweet kiss, one that promised many more moments like this to come before he ran off to the clubhouse ready to celebrate with beer and champagne showers.
