The warm, golden hues of the setting sun painted the sky as Tommy guided you down a winding path toward the beach. The air was filled with the soft crash of waves and the salty scent of the ocean. He held your hand firmly, a nervous energy buzzing through him that you couldn’t quite place.
“Where are we going?” you asked, laughing as he urged you forward.
“You’ll see,” he said, grinning but keeping his gaze forward. “Patience, babe.”
You couldn’t help but smile at his excitement, though you were still curious about what he was up to. Tommy had been acting a little different all week—sneaky, even. You’d caught him whispering to Junebug several times, and they’d always clammed up the moment you entered the room. Now, you were finally going to see what all the secrecy was about.
When you reached the crest of the sand dune, Tommy stopped and turned to face you. “Okay, close your eyes.”
You raised an eyebrow at him. “Really? You’re making me close my eyes?”
“Yes,” he said with a chuckle. “Trust me.”
Reluctantly, you complied, letting him guide you down onto the soft sand. After a few moments, he stopped and positioned you carefully. “Alright,” he said, his voice softer now. “Open them.”
You opened your eyes to find a small, intimate setup before you. A blanket was spread out on the sand, adorned with fairy lights and surrounded by flickering candles. A basket of your favorite snacks and a bottle of sparkling cider sat in the middle, and a bouquet of your favorite flowers rested beside it. The sight took your breath away.
“Tommy…” you whispered, your eyes wide with surprise. “Did you do all this?”
He scratched the back of his neck, his cheeks tinged with a faint blush. “I might’ve had some help,” he admitted, his lips quirking into a sheepish smile. “Junebug gave me a few pointers.”
You laughed softly, your heart swelling with affection. “It’s beautiful. Thank you.”
He led you to the blanket and helped you sit down, pouring the cider into two glasses and handing you one. The two of you talked and laughed as you enjoyed the snacks, the atmosphere growing more and more romantic with each passing moment. But you couldn’t help noticing that Tommy seemed a little distracted, his leg bouncing nervously and his eyes darting toward the horizon.
“Are you okay?” you asked, reaching out to place a hand on his knee.
He looked at you, his expression softening. “Yeah, I just… there’s something I need to do.”
Before you could ask what he meant, Tommy stood and reached into his pocket. Your heart skipped a beat as he dropped to one knee in front of you, his gaze locking with yours.
“Y/N,” he began, his voice steady despite the clear nervousness in his eyes. “You are the best thing that’s ever happened to me. You make me laugh, you make me feel alive, and you make me want to be a better man every single day. I can’t imagine my life without you.”
Your hand flew to your mouth as tears welled in your eyes, your heart pounding in your chest.
“I know I made a fool of myself the last time,” he continued with a wry smile, “but I promise this time I’m completely sober, and I’ve thought about this for a long time. I love you more than anything in this world, and I want to spend the rest of my life making you happy.”
Tommy opened the small black box he’d been holding, revealing the same ring he’d drunkenly proposed with—but this time, the moment was perfect. “Y/N, will you marry me?”
Tears streamed down your cheeks as you nodded, unable to find your voice at first. “Yes,” you finally managed, your voice trembling. “Yes, of course, I’ll marry you.”
His face lit up with the biggest grin you’d ever seen as he slid the ring onto your finger. Then he stood and pulled you to your feet, wrapping you in a tight embrace before kissing you deeply. The world seemed to fade away as you melted into his arms, your heart bursting with happiness.
When you finally pulled back, you both laughed softly, resting your foreheads together. “You have no idea how nervous I was,” Tommy admitted, brushing a strand of hair from your face.
“I had no idea,” you teased, your smile widening. “But you did amazing.”
The two of you spent the rest of the evening on the beach, wrapped up in each other and dreaming about your future together. As the waves crashed gently against the shore and the stars began to twinkle above, you couldn’t imagine a more perfect beginning to the next chapter of your lives.
