You sat nervously in the waiting room of the doctor’s office, your hands clasped tightly in your lap. For the past few days, you hadn’t felt like yourself. Fatigue, nausea, and a sense of unease had taken over, leaving you with little choice but to book an appointment. As much as you hoped it was just a stomach bug, a tiny voice in the back of your mind whispered something else entirely.
“Y/N?”
You looked up to see your friend Karely walking into the room, her hand resting on the small but noticeable bump of her belly. A bright smile spread across her face when she saw you.
“Karely!” you exclaimed, standing up to hug her. “What are you doing here?”
“Just a checkup,” she replied, patting her belly affectionately. “I’ve got to make sure this little one’s doing okay. What about you? Are you sick?”
You hesitated, biting your lip. “I’m not sure,” you admitted quietly, glancing around to make sure no one else could hear. “I mean... I don’t feel good, but I also think I might be pregnant.”
Karely’s eyes widened. “Are you serious?”
You nodded, feeling your cheeks flush. “I haven’t told Cody yet. I don’t even know for sure if I am, but something feels... different.”
Before Karely could respond, a nurse opened the door and called your name. You gave your friend an apologetic smile and followed the nurse down the hallway, your heart pounding in your chest.
The doctor greeted you warmly and listened carefully as you described your symptoms. When you mentioned the possibility of pregnancy, she nodded thoughtfully.
“We’ll do a test to confirm,” she said, handing you a small plastic cup. “Once you’re ready, bring this back to me.”
Your hands trembled slightly as you took the cup and made your way to the bathroom. The minutes that followed felt like an eternity. When you finally handed the sample back to the doctor, you couldn’t shake the mix of nerves and excitement swirling in your chest.
The doctor returned a short while later with a soft smile on her face. “Congratulations,” she said gently. “The test is positive. You’re pregnant.”
The words hit you like a tidal wave, and tears sprang to your eyes. “I’m really going to have a baby?” you whispered, barely able to believe it.
“You are,” the doctor confirmed, her smile growing. “Based on your symptoms and the timing, I’d estimate you’re around six weeks along. We’ll schedule an ultrasound soon to confirm everything.”
Tears streamed down your face as you nodded, overwhelmed by a mixture of joy, disbelief, and nervousness.
When you stepped back into the waiting room, Karely was still there, flipping through a magazine. She looked up as you approached, her eyes narrowing in curiosity when she saw your tear-streaked face.
“What happened? Are you okay?” she asked, setting the magazine aside.
You couldn’t contain the smile spreading across your face. “I’m pregnant,” you blurted out, barely able to keep your voice steady.
Karely’s face lit up, and she jumped to her feet to hug you tightly. “Oh my gosh, Y/N, that’s amazing! Cody’s going to be so excited!”
“I hope so,” you said, wiping your eyes. “I haven’t told him yet. I want to do something special when he gets home.”
Karely grinned. “Well, you’d better hurry up and think of something, because this is big news!”
When you got home, the first thing you did was take the pregnancy test out of your bag and look at it. You stared at the two pink lines for a long moment, your heart swelling with love for the tiny life growing inside you.
