It was well past midnight when you heard the distinct sound of the front door opening and closing. You glanced up from the book you were reading, your brow furrowing as a familiar, uneven shuffle of footsteps echoed through the hallway. You sighed, setting the book down on the coffee table. Tommy had gone out with his teammates to celebrate their win, and judging by the noise he was making, he’d had more than his fair share of drinks.
“Tommy?” you called, standing up and walking toward the noise.
You found him leaning heavily against the wall near the entryway, his hair tousled and his eyes glazed over. His face was flushed, his usual sharp features softened by the haze of alcohol. When he spotted you, a lazy grin spread across his lips.
“Hey, baby,” he slurred, his voice thick with drink. He took an unsteady step toward you and stumbled slightly, catching himself on the wall. “Missed you.”
Despite yourself, you couldn’t help but smile at the sight of him, looking like a boy who’d just gotten caught sneaking out past curfew. “You’re drunk,” you said, crossing your arms over your chest and raising an eyebrow.
He chuckled, running a hand through his already messy hair. “Maybe… just a little.”
“Just a little?” you teased, stepping closer to help steady him. “Come on, superstar, let’s get you to bed.”
Tommy grinned at your touch, leaning into you as you wrapped an arm around his waist. “You’re the best, you know that? Way too good for me.”
You rolled your eyes but felt your cheeks warm at his words. “Yeah, yeah, tell me that when you’re sober.”
As you guided him toward the bedroom, he kept muttering little compliments under his breath. By the time you got him to sit on the edge of the bed, you were both laughing at how wobbly he was.
“Sit,” you instructed, gently pushing him back until he was lying flat on the bed.
Tommy obeyed, flopping down with a dramatic sigh. “This bed’s so soft,” he mumbled, his eyes fluttering shut for a moment before he opened them again to look at you. “You’re beautiful, you know that?”
“Tommy…” you began, shaking your head with a soft laugh. But the way he looked at you—so earnest, so full of adoration—made your heart skip a beat.
Unable to resist, you leaned down, your hands resting on either side of his head as you studied his face. His features were softer in the dim light, the sharp angles of his jaw and cheekbones highlighted just enough to make your stomach flutter. Slowly, you traced your fingers along his jawline, down to the scruff on his chin, and up the bridge of his nose.
“What’re you doing?” he asked, his voice low and slightly slurred, but there was a hint of amusement in his tone.
“Memorizing you,” you replied simply, running your thumb over his bottom lip.
Tommy’s eyes darkened, and before you could react, he leaned up and captured your lips in a kiss. It was soft at first, his lips moving slowly against yours, but it didn’t take long for it to deepen. His hands found your waist, pulling you closer until you were straddling him, his warmth enveloping you completely.
“Y/N,” he murmured against your lips, his voice rough and filled with need. “God, I love you.”
“I love you too,” you whispered, threading your fingers through his messy hair as his hands roamed up your back, pressing you closer to him. His kisses grew more heated, trailing down your neck and across your collarbone, leaving a trail of fire in their wake.
Just when you thought you might lose yourself completely in the moment, Tommy pulled back slightly, his hand fumbling toward his pocket. “Wait, wait… I’ve got something.”
You blinked, your breath still coming in quick bursts as you watched him struggle to pull something out of his jeans. “Tommy, what are you—”
“Ta-da!” he exclaimed, holding up a small black box with a triumphant grin.
Your eyes widened, your heart stopping as he opened the box to reveal a stunning ring. “Tommy…” you breathed, completely caught off guard.
“Marry me,” he said, his words slurred but his expression utterly sincere. “I want you to be my wife. Forever. Please?”
You stared at him, your heart racing as a mix of emotions flooded you. “Tommy, are you serious right now?”
“Dead serious,” he replied, nodding earnestly. “You’re everything I’ve ever wanted. I don’t need to wait. I know I want you.”
Tears pricked your eyes as you bit your lip, trying to process the moment. “Tommy, I… I’d love to marry you. But maybe you should ask me again when you’re sober?”
Tommy frowned, clearly displeased with your response. “Why? I mean it. I love you.”
You cupped his face in your hands, stroking his cheek gently. “I know you do. And I love you too. But I want this moment to be special—for both of us. I want you to remember it.”
He sighed dramatically, his head falling back against the bed. “Fine. But you’re saying yes, right?”
A laugh bubbled up from your chest, and you leaned down to kiss him softly. “Yes. A million times yes.”
His grin returned, and he pulled you back into his arms, holding you so tightly you could barely move. “Good. ‘Cause you’re stuck with me now.”
You couldn’t help but laugh as you snuggled against him, feeling his warmth and the steady rhythm of his heartbeat. Even in his drunken state, Tommy managed to make you feel like the most loved and cherished person in the world. And while you couldn’t wait for the day he’d ask you again—sober and fully present—you were perfectly content just being in his arms, knowing you’d found your forever.
