I was at school on my lunch break when I decided to call ja'rod. I haven't talked to him since we talked and I miss him.

I put the phone to my ear, taking a bite of my pizza hearing it ring. My eyebrows furrowed together hearing it go to voicemail.

I set my phone up to FaceTime him and to see if he'll answer. The phone rang three times before he answered.

"Yea?"

"Hey I called you a minute ago and you didn't answer"

"My fault I was busy"

I hesitated before speaking, "what uh what were you doing?"

"I was rolling up"

"You always answer the phone when you're rolling up"

Ja'rod sighed, "Destiny I didn't answer the first time but I did now, so wassup?"

I frowned, "i just wanted to talk to you since we haven't really talked in weeks but you've make it clear that im bothering you and you don't wanna talk to me" I said before hanging up.

"Having boy trouble?" The girl sitting next to me said.

I looked at her with a straight face, "no everything's fine"

"Sure didn't sound like it—what is it, cheating? Lying? What?"

"Not that's it any of your business, everything is fine" I said walking away.

'Im so ready to move on to my next chapter'

                     . . . . . . .

I just came from my hairstylist. I wanted to get knotless braids thigh length so I was there pretty late.

I walk into my living room seeing ja'rod sitting on my couch.

"How did you get in here?" I looked at him as he laid across my couch.

"I picked da' lock" he shrugged.

I stared at him before scoffing, "don't pick my lock"

"You ain't answer when i called or I knocked so I picked da' lock"

"Why are you even here?" I sat on my kitchen stool.

"You look sexy wit' yo' hair and them scrubs"

"Ja'rod I'm not playing—why are you in my house?" I repeated more sternly.

"Cause I wanted ya' see you—I miss you" he walked towards me.

"You didn't seem like you did earlier, I just wanted to talk to you"

He grabbed my chin and made me look up at him, "I'm sorry mama" he kissed my lips, "you forgive me?" I shook my head out of his grip and stood up.

"What?" He asked.

"What were you doing earlier—when you did answer the phone, what were you doing?"

"You really wan' know?"

"Yes that's why I'm asking"

"I was working"

"Were you killing?" I asked.

"This why I didn't wanna tell you, I'm trying ta' keep you separate from what I do but you gon' get mad if ion tell you"

"So you was killing?"

He scrunched up his face, "what?"

I chuckled, "your mom was right, I ke—"

"You talkin' ta' my momma?" He cut me off.

"Yes"

"What are you doing Destiny?" He rubbed his hand down his face, "why is you talkin' ta' my momma bout me?"

"I needed someone to talk to"

"So talk to yo' momma"

"I needed to talk to someone who understands you", I sighed rubbing my temples, "ja'rod I don't want to argue"

"Watchu talk ta' her for?"

"I asked how she would deal with this situation"

"You know what I'm bout ta' leave bruh, you'on wan' argue, ion wanna argue so ima just go"

"Why do you do that? You leave everytime something is wrong" I spoke.

"You the reason why we're in this situation destiny don't play the victim" he gritted, "you left not me"

"NO! You're the reason why we're right here—if you would've told me, our relationship wouldn't have gotten this far and we wouldn't be at each other's throats every chance we got"

"I want to this, I want this to work between us ja'rod" i said, "but I cannot put myself through the ringer again"

"maybe we should work on ourselves separately so we can be better together" I suggest.

"So now you wan' break up?—again"

"I'm trying to find out ways that we can be together and not end up in up in a toxic relationship where we're miserable with each other"

"Igh so we break up then what"

"We continue as friends until we're ready"

"I just wanted ta' come over here and chill wit' my girl" he stood up, "now ion got one"

"You can always come over ja'rod"

"Nah I can't" he said walking out of my apartment.
