"Hey son" Monica spoke as her son hugged her.

"Hey ma"

"Where you been for the past few weeks? You ain't been coming to see me"

"I been busy" he spoke. He didn't want to tell her why he actually wasn't coming to see her.

He was with destiny. He didn't want to tell his mother because she would make a big deal about it and try to meet destiny.

"Busy doing what? Working?" Monica raised her eyebrows, walking to the kitchen.

"Yea" he said.

Monica knew he was lying but he wasn't telling her, so it wasn't any of her business.

"How my grandbaby doing?"

"He good, whatchu making?" He asked walking into the kitchen.

"Food"

Ja'rod smacked his teeth, "can I have some?"

Monica eyed her son as he held a hand on his stomach.

"Mhm cause you look like you getting thinner—you been eating?"

"Yes ma"

"You've been lying to me since you got here, now I don't care why you've been "busy" but I do care if you've been taking care of yourself"

"Now you usually come here every few nights to sleep or whatever but you haven't—so care to tell me what the hell is going on" Monica stressed.

Even though ja'rod was twenty-four and living in his own, she still worried about him. He was her only child left and she wasn't going to let this be.

"I been sleepin' momma and I've been eating"

"At your own place?" She asked turning towards him.

Ja'rod hesitated before speaking, "yea"

Monica sensed his hesitation but let it go, "how much have you been eating?"

"A meal every day and a few other snacks" he mumbled.

"That's not enough nigga—you need to eat at least two meals a day"

"Alright I'll start eating two meals a day"

"Good—and if I find out you haven't, I'll kill you myself" Monica threatens making ja'rod chuckle.

"Why you laughing—like I'm not bout that motherfuckin' life" she mugged her son.

"You right ma"

I was in the car, driving in silence when ja'rod called me, causing me to answer.

"Waddup mama" ja'rod said to me.

I was in the car driving to my mother's house. I just came from work then I went to school, so to say I'm exhausted is an understatement.

"Hey—" I started off before yawning, "baby"

"You tired?"

"Yea, I've been up since five" I said rubbing my eye.

"How was work and school?"

"It was good, I'm tired and hungry as fuck though"

"Mm" he said moving around in his kitchen, "go ta' sleep when you get home'"
