Third wheeling

Love actually was playing on the ginormous TV in our living room for the millionth time, with Shan and Johnny curled up together on the sofa next to me. Talk about third wheeling? "Baby, are we going to meet up with everyone later, or would you like it to just be us tonight?" Johnny spoke softly into my sisters ear, stroking her hair gently. Sometimes their relationship made me crave love of my own, maybe someday I'll find my person. A girl who liked me for me. My personality, someone who accepted all my flaws. Not just because I gained a few muscles over the summer. Glancing over at the pair giggling all over the place, I quickly got up and slipped out of the room, mumbling something about taking a walk to clear my head.

With music blasting in my ears, my feet carried me towards the quiet of the library. My footsteps quickened as rain began to fall, typical weather in Cork. I shook my head aggressively before stepping inside, water droplets flying at all angles from my dripping wet curls. The comfortable silence of the large space was like a breath of fresh air. Sometimes living in a household that big, it was nice to escape to the peace and quiet of the library. Plus it had pretty much any book I would ever want to read which was a bonus. Collapsing onto one of the many armchairs, I cracked open a new book and began to read.

Several minutes later, I was interrupted by a text on my phone. It was from an unknown number, simply reading 'Look up.' My eyes darted up, immediately locking onto the brunette girl starting right back at me, perched on a sofa with several cushions dotted around it. I blushed, Ami's appearance catching me off guard.

'Fancy seeing you here' I texted back.
'Since when did u have my number??'

'Since you gave it to me after helping with my bike in first year, remember.'

'Oh yeah, wow that was ages ago.'

'Mhm.'
'So what brings you here?'

'Just needed some fresh air, plus you can't beat the selection of books they got here.'

'U okay?'
'And yes, that's why I literally live in here.'

'Yeah I'm good, just needed to get away for a little bit.'

'Well I'm here if you ever need to talk Ols.'
'You were there for me when I really need it.'

'Thanks Ams, appreciate it x'

I peered over the screen of my phone, smiling at the sudden kindness of this girl.

'Well nice seeing u, but I should probably be revising for that bio test on monday.'
'Look forward to beating ur ass!'

"Nuh uh, just you wait Carter."
