The first thing Clarke does when she gets home is submit a report to the higher-ups at the FBI laying out the progress she's made in her relationship with Alexandria.

But to her surprise, rather than either receiving the usual 'this is great, but we need more' or the even more usual lack of response, she receives a call from Agent Pike.

"Hello Agent Pike, how are you?"

"Let's just skip the small talk and cut to the chase Agent Griffin. Let me see if I am understanding your report correctly. You were in our target's home, yes?"

"Yes, that's correct, Agent Pike."
"You were there for hours, and Alexandria Evergreen was asleep during most of the time you were there?"

"Yes..." Clarke responds questioningly, slowly realizing what he is getting at.

"And yet, you failed to search as much as a single drawer in her condo. You did nothing to find any sort of evidence while you were there even though it was easily the best opportunity you could have ever asked for?"

And there it was.

Clarke had to admit to herself that she hadn't thought about searching Lexa's place for even one second while she was there, because she had been too worried about the woman with the brown hair and the beautiful green eyes. And that was fine to admit to herself, but what's worse is that even if she had thought about it, she likely wouldn't have done it anyway because that would have felt too... Slimy. Taking advantage of Lexa and the situation while she was as vulnerable as she had been today just felt completely wrong. But she couldn't tell Pike that. He wouldn't understand that, nor would he accept it. She was supposed to simply do her job. And her job did not include caring for or about Alexandria Evergreen.

So, she decides to completely forgo any form of explanation.

"That's correct. I was preoccupied with caring for her because if the suspect dies, there is not even a point in finding any evidence. Since I have made progress with her now, I am sure I'll be able to go to her home more often though, so there will be more opportunities. My apologies, it won't happen again."

Agent Pike gruffly replies, "It better not. Because if it does, you are off the case and that's two months of field work and even longer in preparations down the drain."

"Yes sir," Clarke responds meekly. And Pike hangs up the phone without responding again.

Clarke looks down at the still lit up screen on her phone. It's about 10 PM now. As much as she wanted to get back to her regular life, she really did not want to be pulled off the case. She wanted to see this through until the end. So, she had to step up her game.

So, she decides to risk Lexa's wrath or simply being ignored by the brunette and shoots her a quick text.

The first reply took a few minutes, and Clarke was able to take a shower and change into her pajamas before Lexa responded, but the second reply came instantly

The first reply took a few minutes, and Clarke was able to take a shower and change into her pajamas before Lexa responded, but the second reply came instantly. And even though Lexa cut her off and ended the conversation almost instantly, it still made the blonde smile, because she could perfectly envision Lexa's face as she read and then replied to her second message.
