The following day, Lexa's question comes in early in the morning.

Clarke quickly starts recording, aware of the self-deprecation in her own voice, but unable to hide it.

"I walked to your place because I wanted to talk to you. I figured if you weren't answering my calls or messages, forcing you to talk to me in person would be the only way to do it. So, when I got there, I stood around for a bit, trying to think of a way to get you outside or for you to let me in. But then you came outside. I followed you. I know that's creepy and weird especially with you already having been stalked by a former PA once. Anyway, I actually climbed a lot of stairs since I couldn't take the elevator unseen and when I made it to the office floor, I just saw Titus disappearing into the elevator. I was going to run after him although I didn't know at the time what he had done; he just looked suspicious. But then I saw the flames coming from the end of the hallway. I ran over and you were there on the floor with blood on your face."

At that point, Clarke has to pause for a moment to gather her bearings. The image of her lover... Former lover on the ground, knocked out, covered in blood and almost engulfed by flames still haunted her at night. Clarke had been terrified, but she hadn't hesitated for a moment.

She takes a few deep, calming breaths, then she starts a second recording.

"So yeah, I grabbed you under your arms and pulled you out as fast as I could. I dragged you a couple feet away, but then I went back to put out the fire. It was spreading so fast, and I know that building and everything in it is your life's work. I couldn't let it burn down and you were temporarily safe, so I grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran back in to put out the flames. Then I managed to get you in the elevator and downstairs, I called an ambulance, and yeah. That's pretty much it."

Clarke unconsciously scratches at the rather large scar on her arm at the mention of the burn incident

The blonde was also aware that Lexa technically asked her more than one question at this point, but she didn't care. She was already ecstatic for having received any messages from the brunette at all.

And she almost feels giddy when the brunette responds with a voice memo of her own.

"I suppose I do owe you a thank you for that. For saving my life and for not letting my entire company burn to the ground. So, thank you, Clarke."
