Clarke isn't sure how long her and Lexa embraced each other for or how much of the words she had mumbled into the brunette's hair she had picked up. All Clarke knew was that she had left Lexa in her condo with a heavy heart. And that she felt so incredibly guilty about teasing Lexa with her cooking. Amongst other things.
Lexa had assured her many times over that she was and would be okay and that she would text Clarke if she needed anything, but Clarke couldn't help that her stomach kept feeling like it was tied in a thousand knots. Lexa had already gone through so much, and here Clarke was, ruining her life even more now that things were finally going well for her.
Bitterly Clarke has to admit to herself that even if Ms. Evergreen did what she was being accused of, Clarke wouldn't care. Not really. It could be considered a repayment for the shitty cards the other woman had been dealt in life.
In the back of her mind, Clarke begins to realize she doesn't want to find any other evidence that Lexa is guilty. If anything, she wants to find evidence that proves her innocence.
She was aware that Chief Pike and Finn were already a hundred percent certain Lexa was guilty, but the better Clarke got to know Lexa, the more she started to doubt it. How could someone like Lexa be capable of money laundering and embezzling?
Clarke had to laugh at her own thoughts though. 'Too sweet to be a criminal' wouldn't hold up in court. Besides, many violent criminals had been described by their family and friends as such as well.
Both women exchange a few messages that afternoon and evening and Lexa does seem to be doing okay based on her tone in the texts, but that night, Clarke can barely sleep, mulling everything over in her head. Luckily, she doesn't have anywhere to go on Sunday seeing as her fiancé has to work all weekend. So, when she finally falls asleep, she doesn't wake up until her phone buzzes around 12.30 PM. Groggily, Clarke reaches for it, and she squints her eyes against the bright light of her phone in the darkened room. Lexa had texted her hours ago, then again just now.
Clarke quickly changes the topic. She was being too honest with the brunette, but she couldn't help herself.
