It's not even 7 AM and Clarke is yet to make it to the office when Lexa receives a message from her sister. She's already dreading opening it after Sunday morning's conversation because at this hour and after that conversation, this message couldn't contain anything good.
With a sigh she clicks the notification.
Lexa groans as she reads the message three times over in hopes that the words may change the more she reads it.
She's busy trying to come up with an appropriate response as the door swings open and she is met with a freshly showered Clarke with a wide smile on her face. A wide, but guilty smile. Busted.
"Good morning, Ms. Evergreen! I hope my friend put in a good word with you even though I am..." she takes a quick look at the watch around her wrist, "thirty seconds early."
The blonde places the coffee and yoghurt in front of Lexa and the brunette flips her phone so that Clarke can read what's on her screen.
"I suppose you wouldn't know anything about why Anya may know we kissed?" Alexandria asks, her facial expression unreadable.
The blonde uncomfortable fidgets with her now empty fingers, avoiding meeting Lexa's gaze.
"Clarke..." Lexa says, disregarding the fact that they are at work right now, even though she knows better.
"She tricked me. I thought she knew, so it just slipped out."
Lexa lets out another sight, then responds, "Yeah, she is good at that."
The blonde lifts her face, and her eyes meet Lexa's now before she says, "Why does it matter though? Are you ashamed that it happened? I know you regret it, but does it embarrass you?" The brunette can see a quick flash of something in those beautiful blue eyes, but it's gone too quickly for her to make out what it means.
"I don't regret it. And no, I am not ashamed or embarrassed. I just like to keep my business private."
Again, something flashes behind Clarke's eyes at those last words and her eyes narrow ever so slightly. Really, barely noticeably.
"Are you sure?" the blonde questions.
"Yes, very sure."
A small smile reappears on Clarke's face before she speaks, "What are you going to tell her?"
"I'm not sure yet. Probably that she needs to mind her business," Lexa responds dryly.
"I'm really sorry. I didn't mean for her to find out from anyone but you if at all."
"Don't worry your pretty head about it. She was going to find out one way or another eventually. Especially once it happens again," Lexa says in a mock defeated tone. She didn't really mind. She would have just preferred it to be another way.
