Chapter 7

The car stopped along the curb outside our building. We held hands on the way to the elevator and looked straight ahead as the doors slid shut. I looked over to find him smiling.

“What?” I giggled. He looked down at me and pulled me close.

“You,” he grinned.

“What about me?”

“I’m just happy you finally agreed to give me a chance.” His eyes seemed to stare into my mind, reading my thoughts of lust and the doubt of all this. He leaned in closing his eyes, and I stood there and breathed a sigh of relief as the elevator dinged, interrupting his move. I half-heartedly smiled and we both walked to the end of the hallway, standing between our two doors to our dwellings. I caught him off guard and kissed him on his cheekbone, pulling away slowly. I smirked and slipped into my condo.

I could flirt too, it’s only human instinct right?

Then my mind had time to think about all this. Why?! Nathan scarred me, I was still scared! I was scared to lone someone again, to trust! I couldn’t explain why I still doubted Ryan. He was so sweet and romantic and… fun. But that was what he chose to show. Was he playing me?

Was I over-thinking?

A knock on my door startled me, I ran and opened it.

“Surprise!!”

“Molly?! Oh my god! What are you doing here?!”

Molly strutted past me rolling her suitcase behind her.

“Oh, hun, it’s not only me!” I looked back at the door and screamed.

“Ashley!”

“Ellie!” she shouted. I pulled them both into a hug.

“We thought surprising you would be more fun!” Molly beamed.

“AHH! I’m so happy you’re here!” They set all their stuff in the middle of the foyer and we hugged again jumping. I was so happy and then-

“What’s going on?” I turned around to see the 4 boys, Nash was staring at Molly, so obviously I almost laughed out loud. But she didn’t notice. I looked at Ryan and felt all my thoughts of doubt race back to me. He smiled at me but I had to look away. I saw his expression turn to confusion.

“Um, these are my best friends, Molly and Ashley! Girls, this is Jamie, Nash, Ian, and Ryan.”

They waved excitedly saying hellos. Ashley’s waving seemed a little excessive to be honest.

“Ok! You boys have to go now!”

“But-“

“Wait! I-“

“Bye,” I sang, and closed the door. I turned around to them and gestured towards the kitchen. I poured them some wine and smiled.

“So, what’s up?!”

“Who were those boys?” Ashley asked.

“They live across the hall. My aunt neglected to tell me about them. They are quite annoying and will probably be back in a couple minutes..”

“That Ryan one was cute!” Ashley winked.

My heart dropped.
