-ELEANOR’S POV-

So here we are; it’s almost a year since I met Ryan yet it felt like an eternity. The band has released their first ever album, and are now planning a tour for it and their new growing fanbase. The summer tour will be the whole United States.

And I’m not going.

No, no, it’s my choice! Our relationship has grown so much stronger the past couple months. And my interest in the music business has grown too. So I made the decision of summer school in July. Because it’s my dream that took a little more time to get going. But being with Ryan just a bit longer was worth it.

It’s June again, and hey guess what! Ryan leaves on the day of our one year anniversary. That’s two weeks away. Great.

In the midst of packing and planning for the tour, on a Monday night, Ryan grabbed my hand and pulled me to the car.

“Now where are we going?!” I giggled, not that surprised by the move because this wasn’t the first time he’s done this. We both buckled our seat belts and he finally looked me in the eyes. “It’s a surprise!” he laughed really nervously.

I nodded ‘okay’ and as we pulled out I asked, “Why is everyone staring at us?” Behind the glass showing the lobby to our building in Nashville, the three boys and Molly and Nick were smiling like idiots and waving exuberantly.

Ryan glanced over as we pulled of the curb and replied, “I have no idea,” with an evident smirk. I stayed quiet, learning from past experiences to not ask questions and just go along with it.

The familiar scenery outside the car windows told me we were going to our special spot, the lake Ryan always took me to. We stopped before the rocky beach and got out.

“C’mon!” he said and we walked hand in hand until we reached the fallen log that was growing more and more withered.

“I never get bored of this view,” I said looking over at the lake slowly shifting under the full moon and thousands of stars.

“Me too,” Ryan said but he wasn’t looking at the sky, he was looking at me. I blushed when I met his gaze, understanding that little hidden compliment.

He lifted me up around my waist, spun me around once making me giggle of course, and set my butt down on the tree trunk.

“Okay I gotta ask...” I said.

“Shoot.”

“What are we doing here exactly?” I smirked, a small laugh escaping once again.

I looked at the man standing right in front of me, in a jean jacket and skinny jeans; the usual.

He tucked a flimsy strand of my hair behind my ear and came face to face with me.

“I’m leaving in two weeks.”

“Well don’t remind me!” I joke. He chuckles and pecks my forehead softly, then bites his bottom lip. I tilt my head a little to the side in wonder, waiting for an explanation.

He takes both of my hands and says, “So I gotta do this before I leave.”

The first thought comes to my mind and I can’t stop myself from blurting out my worry.

“ARE YOU BREAKING UP WITH ME?!”

His eyes widen instantly. “No! Of course not! Quite the opposite actually!” he smiles.

Wait a minute, is he…?

He goes down on one knee, my hands still in his hold.

Oh my god he is…

“Eleanor…” he begins. Tears instantly come to my eyes as my smile threatens to break my face.

“I’m not really good at this… okay. Before I leave for this tour, I need to make you officially mine. I love you, so, so much. I need you in my life, I can’t even imagine the rest of my life without you in the picture. What I’m trying to say is that I want to spend the rest of my life with you, only you. It’s always been you. I want to wake up to your green eyes in the morning, and sing you to sleep. I want to call you ‘Mrs. Follese’. So, Eleanor… will you marry me?”

And then he reaches into his pocket and pulls out the ring. My hands now cover my mouth in my shock. I notice the infinity symbols on either side of the sparkling diamond. I admire how much thought he put into this perfect band of metal and gemstone.

I can’t speak, tears run down my blushing cheeks as the realization of this moment hits me. And all I can think of is there is no thought that’s regretting what I am about to say.

I try to say it, but the words get caught in my throat so I nod again and again.

Then I finally I can say, “Yes! Yes! One million times yes!”

And now a tear falls down his cheek when he says, “Really?”

“Of course silly!” I laugh as I lunge into his embrace and smile into his shirt, his heart beating fast and steady.

“Yes, yes, yes!” I repeat laughing into the fabric.

We pull apart, but only a little bit, our clothes still in contact.

He slides the ring on the appropriate finger of mine and we lock stares.

Finally we kiss, my hands cupping his face, his arms holding me so close I can barely breathe. His warm familiar lips on mine, under the stars, perfection.

Still holding each other firmly, the infamous ring sparkling in the faint light, I squeal, “We’re getting married!”
