-ELEANOR’s POV-

Here I was, standing in front of the house I grew up in, the black night surrounding me. The tan siding and the bricks were damp from a recent rain shower that thankfully ended before I arrived. I must of stood there for a good 15 minutes. It was after 10pm and the light in the big front window was on. It would be my parents waiting for me to get home from down south. I guess the reason I hand’t gone in yet was that I knew they would be sitting on the couch, they would grin and hug me to tight. But I was too emotionally unstable and tired to act like I was happy to be home. I didn’t want to be here and go to a boring community college. I should be supporting Ryan, living on the road when they make it there and laughing with all my friends.

It was fall as it was September; which meant brisk air and stripping trees. The bite to the air eventually convinced me to go inside. When I opened the door a gush of warm air collided with the cool outside around me and brought me through the door. The first thing I saw was the wide staircase winding to the right to the second floor. I unwillingly looked to my left and there sat my parents on the couch, with the goofiest grins. I hoped they knew my feelings about this, because if they didn’t they were blind not to see the look of revolt on my face. They got up a little too quickly and rushed over to me.

“Welcome home dear,” my mother said giving me a tight hug, my dad followed her and gave me one too. The three of us stood there awkwardly, literally feeling the tenseness in the room. I knew then that they were aware of the horrible situation they were putting me though.

“Eleanor… this will be good for you. To focus on your schooling. I’m sure you will soon realize that your future is more important than some boy,” my mom smiled timidly. There were down from their giddiness of the recent wedding. No more fun, they were back in ‘business mode’ or should I say ‘heartless mode’.

I walked up the stair case without a word and sprinted to me bedroom. I opened the plain door to a room not of my own. My original bed and dresser still occupied the space but the comforter was a generic, boring pattern that my mom must have bought yesterday accompanied by some stale white pillows. All my original belongings still remained in Nashville until a moving crew hauled it back up here.

This switch was getting more and more unbearable. A now foreign room to me, no Ryan or friends, no hot sun, no dates to our special lake….

My parents didn’t bother me for the rest of the night, I curled up with a blanket and sat on my balcony overlooking the front lawn. School would be starting in three days.

I felt so isolated and young. I wouldn’t know anyone at this stupid school. My only good friend in this town was Molly, and I would never take her away from Nash. My routine would just be to wake up, go to school, and then go to bed. All while alone, only with the company of heartless parents.

Crap! I forgot to call Ryan!

I quickly grabbed my phone out of my sweatpants pocket and called him. I looked up at the bright stars and wondered if he saw the same ones. He saw the same moon for sure… but the moon changed too much, it wasn’t constant enough for me. I didn’t like change now.

“Hello?” Ryan’s voice lingered for a moment in my brain, it felt weird to hear it and yet be so far from him.

“I’m home,” I said sadly, not wanting my own words to be true.

He actually laughed a little and said,”No you’re not.” The smile was evident in his voice.

“And why do you say that Mr.Follese?” I giggled, as if we were talking face to face.

“You’re home is here,” he said matter-of-factly. He was right though, which made the situation a bit harder to handle.

“Well then I want to come home, right now.”

“I think that would be one of the best things I would want right now.”

There was a pause as we both processed our predicament at the moment.

“What are you doing right now?” he said softly.

“I’m on my balcony looking at the stars,” I replied.

He let out a chuckle. “What?” I asked.

“I’m looking at the stars too.”

“Really?” I whispered, smiling from the irony. He stifled a laugh.

“I’m at our lake,” he said, his voice as smooth as silk. My heart dropped from the amount of want I felt.

Silence again between us too. I couldn’t help but let a few tears roll down my cheek.

I sniffled and spoke. “I miss you.”

“Don’t cry, you’re stronger than that. I will see you again soon, I promise.”

Why did he seem so content? He wasn’t a couple hours ago at the airport..?

“I love you…. for infinity,” he said. I brought my wrist in front of me and gazed at the bracelet, shining as bright was the stars above me.

“I love you too, forever.”

It took all my strength to press the end button.
