-ELEANOR’S POV-
“I’m going to miss you so much Molly,” I whispered.
“Are you sure you have to go back to Minnesota babe?”
“My parents are making me,” I swallowed the lump in my throat, remembering the horrible demand my mom and dad made. Did they even think of the fact that I LOVE this guy named Ryan? I thought they liked him?
I honestly didn’t know if I could move on from Ryan… I told myself I needed him multiple times and I couldn’t help but worry about him, after seeing the look on his face when I said goodbye.
I shuffled over to hug Nick. “You and Jamie be good!” I ordered. She laughed and nodded.
“I’M GONNA MISS YOU ELLIE!” Ian sobbed, choking me in a massive hug.
“Ohh, Ian!” I managed to squeak. He let me go, but still firmly held my shoulders. “Promise we will see each other again?” he pouted.
“I promise.”
“It’s not gonna be the same without you Ellers,” Nash joked.
“I’ll miss you Nash, be good with my Molly,” I replied.
Jamie stood a little off to the side. His blue shirt collar was messed up, he was staring at his shoes. I walked over to him and smoothed the upturned collar, then hugged the life out of this boy.
“Ryan cried all night last night,” he sighed. Picturing what he said made the lump in my throat return, probably some of my own tears trying to fall. “He gets so dependent on things… like you. I don’t know how well he is gonna handle this.”
Be strong Eleanor, for Jamie.
“Look out for your brother okay? Don’t let him get into any trouble, I’m counting on you,” I smiled. A little smirk appeared on his face and he hugged me one last time.
I walked to the door rolling my black suitcase behind me filled with necessities. My hand turned the handle and I looked back at the five faces staring back at me wearing half-hearted smiles. Ian gave me a small wave and shoved his hand in his pocket.
“Bye guys,” I say with a little wiggle of my fingers, and I leave my best life behind the door.
It’s already dark out when I get outside our building. My taxi is waiting for me, a nice aged man in the driver’s seat. I look at the tall, bright structure as it went further away as the cab drove.
The last time I saw Ryan was when I said goodbye last night. I guessed it was a good thing I hadn’t seen him since or making this trip back home would be unbearable. But even remembering his expression made me want to turn around and snuggle into his arms again, maybe watch a french film.
“You look like you don’t want to be leaving,” the driver said with a warm smile. We had stopped at a red light, I met his comforting eyes in the rear view mirror.
“You have no idea,” I shook my head, just in disbelief of the situation of returning home.
“Don’t worry miss, as they say; absence makes the heart grow fonder, love will conquer all, you know?” his eyes squinted with his smile, his words made me feel some relief, if only for a minute for now.
I nodded and returned his smile, then fixed my stare at nothing in particular out the window until we arrived at the airport.
*********
“Flight 134 now boarding.”
I stood up unwillingly and made my way towards the gate leading to the plane. Even at this time of night the space was bustling and crowded. I felt like the scared girl I was when I came down her alone, similar to my journey now.
Why were my eyes only noticing all the couples in this airport?! It took all my strength to not cry in this huge public place, through all the memories that I was leaving behind as they came back to my central focus.
I labeled myself as crazy when I thought some dude in a jean jacket was Ryan. Every little thing reminded me of him. Just being here in this airport made me recall our adventure to London. Someone’s striking brown eyes gave me the comfort that Ryan’s always did. How the hell was I going to survive this? He was the only person that made me feel most safe and happy, just content and peaceful.
“Eleanor!” Oh great, now I was hearing things… my insanity must have hit rock-bottom because I swore I had heart his voice calling my name.
“Eleanor, wait!” There it is again. I was just in front of the gate when I turned around to the mob of people behind me, rushing to their own flights. I looked for the source of that musical voice but saw no one.
I shook my head and scolded myself for getting my hopes up. Why would Ryan be here anyways?
“Eleanor!”
OH MY GOSH I AM LOSING MY MIND but- wait. I recognize that mop of messy brown hair. Those eyes fixed on me, the same chocolate brown as the softness atop his head.
Was I seriously hallucinating too?
“Ryan?” I said but it only came out as a whisper. He continued to make his way through the moving people. I blinked multiple times but he didn’t disappear!
“Ryan?!” I said, louder now.
When he got to me he hugged me, lifting me off the ground, and after that I knew this wasn’t a figment of my imagination.
He let me down and I grabbed his face in my hands, trembling from trying not to cry.
“What are you doing here?!” I asked, smiling because of this unexpected change of plans.
“You forgot this,” he said, lifting up the infinity bracelet he got me in London. He gently took my wrist and clipped it on where it belonged forever.
I couldn’t hold myself back anymore. I forcefully guided his head towards mine and our lips meant, sending the same spark down my spine like always, telling me our love actually meant something. My tears finally let themselves flow, and when I opened my eyes, there was tears slowly making a presence on his beautiful face as well. I wiped one away with my thumb.
“Call me right when you land okay?” he said rushed.
“LAST CALL FOR FLIGHT 134,” the speaker said.
“I can’t do this, I can’t leave!” I finally broke down, went crazy I guess.
He kissed me so passionately, shutting me up. I took it all in for the last time. The feel of his hands on my skin, his fragrance, just his overall presence. Because I had no idea when I would see him again.
He pulled back, “You need to go. Call me, okay. Just be safe Eleanor, I love you… so much.”
One last embrace and one kiss, the flight attendant ushered me to tunnel and I saw my last glimpse of Ryan, his hand raised in goodbye, for now.
