Chapter 9

~RYAN’S POV~

We all got of the ferris wheel and walked around aimlessly. Nash, Molly, and Ian walked ahead, Jamie and Eleanor were walking close, whispering behind me and Ashley. Two could play this game. I put my arm around Ashley and heard their whispers stop. I silently laughed to myself and continued walking.

We stopped at the shooting game… perfect opportunity.

I stood behind Ashley and helped her hold the plastic gun. I saw Eleanor glance, frowning. I shook off the thought. The game began and I swore under my breath when Jamie won. He picked the stuffed dog and handed it to Eleanor. She smiled softly, still looking pained, and playfully punched his shoulder.

We went on a few more rides and got some food and then headed back home.
We all waltzed into Eleanor’s condo and fell onto the chairs and couch. Ashley snuggled into me, and even though I had my suspicions about Jamie and Eleanor, I still wished it was her pressed against my side.

Jamie looked like he wanted to say something, his foot was tapping and he was biting his lips nervously.

“Jamie, what’s up with you?” I snapped. He looked at me with disgust.

“Can I talk to you, in private?” he asked. We both got up and walked into the kitchen.

“What is wrong with you?!” he harshly whispered.

“What’s wrong with you?!”

“Wait what? What did I do?!” he asked.

“I saw you and Eleanor on the ferris wheel, and when you two were whispering! You think you can just flirt with her when I’m practically dying over here trying to get her to like me?!”

“Ryan!” he gasped in shock. He then started chuckling. “You’ve got to be kidding me! Do you really think I’m that kind of brother? I was only comforting her because of you flirting it up with that Ashley chick! She’s seriously just scared to trust anyone like that.” He paused and took another breath. “And now you probably just made it harder for her to trust you! Flirting with her friend like that! She likes you, she’s just scared! You really messed up, you hurt her. I thought you wanted to help and love her, not make it worse!”

He brushed past me, hitting my shoulder.

I stood there frozen then fell to my knees. He was right, what have I done. I let my jealousy get the best of me, and it was for nothing anyways!  

I jogged back into the open room to find them all coming towards me.

“Eleanor! I need to talk to you!”

Ashley gave her a dirty look and batted her eyelashes at me.

“Not now Ryan, I have a major headache, I think you should leave. Ian opened the door and walked across the hall. Jamie gave me a look and strutted out the door.

Molly and Nash stood in the foyer and talked a bit more. Eleanor stared at the ceiling, as though she was trying not to cry. Then the unthinkable happened. I got to figure out Ashley was a really forward girl…

“Bye Ryan,” she purred and then she kissed me. I froze, my eyes widened and looked at Eleanor.

Her blue eyes got big also, letting the tears spill. Ashley ended the kiss and her smile turned to a pout when she saw my face. She followed my gaze and smirked at Eleanor, then she skipped to her room. Nash and Molly stood there and immediately knew the whole story.

“Eleanor, I-” I stepped to her but she walked backwards, further and further away from me. I advanced toward her again but was stopped by Nash pulling me to the exit.

“Eleanor! No-ELEANOR! I’m sorry! It’s not what it looks like!!” I struggled as Nash tried to pull me out the door.

The last thing I saw was Eleanor fall to her knees, face in her palms crying, and Molly rushing to her side.
