~ELEANOR’S POV~

I ran to the door, almost tripping over the little step leading up to the foyer platform.

“Hey!” I said, swinging open the door. Ryan was wearing dark skinny jeans and a white V-neck with navy suspenders.

“Hi,” he breathed, stepping one step closer to me, taking both of my hands into his. The way they intertwined almost made me jump, that little spark of perfection, like fate. He was smiling big, showing those perfect white teeth. He brought his face down to mine.

“Ready?” he smirked. I nodded, biting my lip.

We raced off to his car and started driving to his secret location. The sun looked like it would set soon, the clouds were shaded with pink and purple shadows, people were walking on the city sidewalks, some happy, some rushed or grim.

I glanced at Ryan, a little smile on his face. I laughed shaking my head and looked back out the window. The landscape went from buildings to neighborhoods, to plains of wheat with only a few houses here and there.

“Where are we going?” I asked.

“Telling you would ruin the surprise! I came here all the time when I was a kid,” he smiled.

We eventually pulled off the main road onto a rocky street between towering trees. I gazed up and down, mesmerized by the beauty of nature and all the hues of green. Then at the end of the road was a clearing the size of a stadium, with a clear lake on it’s floor. The lake was rimmed with trees until it came towards us, where there was only rocky sands and some fallen trees. The reflection of the sun sparkled and danced on the moving masses of water. Ryan parked and jumped out of the car and ran to open my door. He pulled my hand lifting me out into the fresh air. It smelled like pine and the air was light and airy.

I looked behind me and saw Ryan pull out a picnic basket from out of the backseat. I brought my hands up to my face and squealed. I’ve always pictured this exact kind of date in my head, even as a little teenager.

He took my hand, slipping his fingers through mine and we walked down the shore to a fallen log, old and gray, but smooth as satin.

“This is amazing,” I whispered.

“Okay, don’t laugh!”

“What?” I snickered.

“This place was like my escape. I would come here and pretend I was a castaway or a pirate. As I got older, I would come here to get away from all the drama at home or school. I wrote my first song here, on this tree. I swam out to that huge rock once, right there in the middle of the lake,” he said pointing to a large gray boulder surrounded by littler rocks, creating a jagged island.

“I pretended I was getting chased by a shark or something like that-“

I giggled, making him stop and look at me.

“You think that’s funny miss?” he asked briskly.

“Nope, not at all!” I lied.

He had brought a huge array of fruit and wine. We talked until the stars twinkled above us.

“Wanna go for a swim?” he asked devilishly.

“Um no! That would ruin my clothes!” He jumped down and lifted me up setting me down on the beach again with him. I started to run but he caught up to me, grabbing me around the waist and twirled me around. We were both laughing hysterically.

He made his way closer and closer to the water.

“Ryan! No, please!”

I twisted around so I was facing him, almost falling. I grabbed his suspenders for support. He stopped and grabbed my waist. I got lost in his eyes again, the amount of lust I felt was staggering.

Nathan would never do this.

He would never bring me on a picnic.

He would never hold my hand or hug me.

He would never softly touch me, bring me closer…

Kiss this amazing boy.

I tugged on his suspenders and finally felt his lips on mine abruptly. He was surprised, but then he pulled me against his chest and I snaked my arms around his neck. Our lips moved in sync, back and forth in harmony. Lust pushed me to take a fistful of his hair, which made him move his hands to my face, making me shiver. This was the most perfect kiss, like the one’s you see in films. I never wanted it to end, it made everything make sense. That I needed Ryan and he actually wanted me. My jaw got sore, I haven’t kissed for so long, I haven’t loved for so long. I never felt this kind of love. I craved it, I waited so long for someone like him.

We broke apart but our faces stayed together, forehead against forehead.

“Whoa,” Ryan sighed beaming. His warm minty breath tickled my cheeks.

“Whoa,” I repeated.
