Emilys POV

When I enter the conference room, Tara is sitting alone at the table, hunched over some files, engrossed in her notes.

"Hey Tara, I thought something warm wouldn't hurt," I say, placing a coffee cup in front of her.
She looks up and smiles at me gratefully before closing her hands around the warm cup of drink.
"You're a sweetheart. This is exactly what I needed, thanks." She takes a long sip and I turn to the board to study the notes.

"Are we ready for the first interview?" I ask, picking on my fingers while not taking my eyes off the board.
Tara lifts herself up and walks over to me before answering.
"Yeah, basically. But to be honest, we're still pretty much in the dark.
Aside from the manner of death and the school, there are no similarities between the victims.
None of this makes sense."

JJ joins us and sips on her own coffee mug as she looks at the information.

"So, the first witness is here and waiting in the interrogation room.
He's the school's guidance counselor.
Maybe he can shed some light on the matter." she announces and I can tell from her voice that her thoughts are somewhere else entirely.

She's probably thinking about our case at her old school, about the teacher who collected students like trophies.
Including her sister.
I knew the case wouldn't be easy for her when I saw the first information and I'm trying my best to protect her.

I place my hand on JJ's back and tilt my head slightly toward her.
"I'll take over the interrogation of the guidance counselor and you take care of something else, okay?" I suggest and she nods slowly before smiling gratefully at me.
Her hand instinctively goes to her neck until she notices that her necklace is no longer there.
She quickly lowers her hand and focuses again on the board in front of her, but I see an expression on her face that I haven't seen in a long time.

For a moment we all look at the boards in silence, trying to find a connection between the data, but the connection remains hidden from us so far.
Frustrated, I turn away and my gaze falls on Y/N's crutch leaning on the edge of the table.

"Where is Y/N?" I ask, panic rising within me.

I realize I haven't seen her in a while and the fact that her crutch is here makes me nervous.
What if she needs help?

JJ and Tara turn to me, both looking confused.
They also seem to have only just noticed that she is missing.

"She wanted to go to the bathroom. That was about 20 minutes ago..." Tara says after checking her watch.
"Should I go and check?" JJ offers and my concern is reflected in her eyes.

I think about the last time Y/N disappeared into the bathroom for a long time and suddenly I find it difficult to breathe.

"No, I'll check myself. Y/N must be somewhere," I say, sounding more nervous than I want.

Suddenly two hands wrap around my waist from behind and Y/N lays her head on my shoulder.
"Here I am, Darling," she whispers with a smile and I notice how my body immediately relaxes under her touch.
I turn around in her arms and wrap my arms around her neck.
"Thank God. Where were you, angel?" I hold her tight and breathe in her scent to chase away the last bit of panic.
"I was just in the bathroom. I'm fine, Em," she reassures me and seals it with a kiss.
"You shouldn't worry so often, nothing will happen to me."
She adds with a smile and snuggles up to me again as I hold her tighter, as if I could protect her from all the evil in this world.
