fear, panic

Y/N's POV

"Are you sure you want to do this?" Emily asks me after she parked her car in the BAU parking lot.
Her eyebrows are furrowed in concern and her dark eyes study me, as she nervously wrings her hands.
I grab her hands to stop her from picking at her cuticles and squeeze them confidently.
"I'm sure, Darling."
Her gaze wanders through the windshield into the distance and for a moment her mind seems to be somewhere else entirely.
"What are you worried about, Em?" I ask her, leaning forward to meet her gaze.

"It's strange to be here again, with you.
The last time we were in this building together, you disappeared without a trace and I..." Her voice trails off and she continues to stare into the distance.
Her hands shake slightly and I squeeze them tighter.
She finally turns her head and looks at me, tears glistening in her eyes.

It hurts me to see her like this.
I sometimes forget that the situation must have been terrible for her too.
I don't want to think about how scared she must have been, the thought tears me apart.

"I'm so sorry, Em. That won't happen again, okay? I know, we won't be driving home together today because I have to go to physical therapy later.
But I'll wait for you at home, I promise.
Nothing will happen to me, you really don't need to worry."
I look at her pleadingly, hoping that she believes me and that my words calm her down.
She smiles sadly and a tear rolls down her cheek.
"Will you call me as soon as you get home?" Her voice sounds slightly frightened, weak.
"Of course. Immediately. But if it makes you feel better, I can come here after therapy. Then we can drive home together after you finish work."
I catch the tears rolling down her face with my thumb and smile at her.
Emily closes her eyes briefly and then nods slowly.
"That would be nice." She breathes quietly and a small smile plays on her lips.
"Great! I'll come here straight away after and wait for you, my Dear."
I lean in and kiss her gently.
As our lips meet, she slowly relaxes and gives in to the feeling. She kisses me back, hard and pleading, as if she's afraid it might be our last kiss.
I brush her silver hair out of her face as we lean back again and our eyes meet.
She slowly looks like my strong, tough Emily again and her smile warms my heart.
Still, I see the hint of worry reflected in her eyes.

She gets out of the car, grabs the crutch from the trunk, and then extends her hand to help me get out.
We take a deep breath together and then make our way into the building, her hand resting on my waist, supporting me.

Emily presses the elevator button and the grip on my waist tightens as she pulls me closer to her.
I lean my head against her shoulder and briefly shift my weight onto her arm, grateful for the relief.

"Good morning you two. Were you able to recover?" Tara walks up to us and gives us both a knowing wink, although she doesn't look particularly rested herself.
She takes a few sips from her coffee to go cup while we wait for the elevator.

The doors open and Tara lets us both go first.
In the elevator, Emily stands behind me and I lean back against her as she clasps her hands together in front of my chest.
Tara smiles at both of us and talks to Emily about trivial things while I just listen.

JJ and Penelope are already waiting for us in the bullpen.
"Good morning my favorite wine loving friends, would you like some coffee?" Penelope steps aside and points to the coffee mugs already prepared on the desk behind her.
Tara throws away her to-go cup and gratefully grabs one of the cups.
Emily looks at me questioningly and then heads over to the table to get us both a cup.
Meanwhile, Penelope pulls me into her arms and thanks me for the great girls' night.
"We'll have to do that again very soon.
I missed that so much. We won't put this off for so long again." She states and throws a commanding look around.
Everyone nods in agreement while Emily pulls out a chair for me, which I gratefully sink into. I lean the crutch against the back of the chair.
With a kiss on the forehead, she hands me a cup of coffee and then leans against the table next to me.
Her hand rests on my shoulder while she holds her own coffee with the other.
JJ eyes me intently, so I send her a smile, hoping she won't worry.
