Emilys POV

"Well, my dearest crime fighters. We have a problem that we need to address."
Garcia shifts from one foot to the other, nervously turning the remote in her hands.
Her gaze wanders around the room without really looking at any of us.
"You'll find everything on your tablets."
She adds in a resigned voice and sinks into a chair at the round conference table.

A short silence falls across the room as everyone opens their tablets and starts to read.
"Are you serious?" Tara scoffs, staring at the tablet in her Hands.
As I focus my eyes on the digital document in front of me, my stomach tightens painfully and my hands grip the tablet so tightly that it trembles slightly.
I bite the inside of my cheek to keep myself from cursing out loud.

That can't be true, that shouldn't be true.

"That's why I called you all here.
I don't think I need to explain what that means for us." Rossi notes and slowly gets up to stand next to the still dark screen.
This way he has a better view of each of us.
I look around and see the horrified expressions on my colleagues' faces.

Tara's eyes keep wandering over the text on her tablet as if she had missed some crucial piece of information, Luke shakes his head almost imperceptibly and his hands tap a nervous melody on the tabletop.
Garcia stares at the table in front of her, avoiding eye contact as if she were personally responsible for this problem.
I know that this whole thing is very close to her.
Her desire to protect Y/N is probably almost as strong as mine.

Rossi's gaze rests on me, his eyes searching my face for something.
He seems worried.

"So there is actually a risk that her mother will be released again?"
I ask as calmly as possible, but my voice is shaking and I clench my hands into fists under the table so tightly that my fingernails dig into my skin.
The tension has to go somewhere.

Rossi nods and I laugh bitterly before I jump up and start pacing around the room.
He tilts his head for a moment and looks at me. The reaction doesn't seem to surprise him, but he registers it without saying a word.

"Yes, unfortunately that is a possibility." Garcia takes the floor. She shifts back and forth in her chair almost imperceptibly, I think she would like to be anywhere other than here.
"Y/N's mother could get away with it.
It's hard for me to call her a mother because she definitely isn't.
More like a monster.
You've all read it. We got her statement from someone."
She presses the remote control and the document we all just read appears on the television behind her.
"She portrays herself as a victim, says she had no choice, Mr King and Mr Black threatened to harm her beloved child and herself.
She was just trying to save herself and
Y/N. She states she had only harmed Y/N so that the men wouldn't become suspicious. They had to think she was working with them to save their lives."

"That she even dares to mention Y/N's name is unbelievable. Talking about her as her beloved child, that makes me sick..."
I press out, my whole body vibrates with anger and I feel the need to smash something.

"If she testified against the two men, she could serve as a star witness and would probably only get a few years for aiding and abetting the kidnapping.
With good leadership and if she continues to play the victim card..." Rossi doesn't finish the sentence, we all know what he wanted to say.

She must not be released.
She can't get away with this after what she did to Y/N.

"And they believe her crap?" I scoff as I continue to pace up and down, wringing my hands. My whole body is so tense and I can hardly breathe properly.
