ESTELLA'S POV
I'm driving, lost in my thoughts about what Ian said yesterday. He's right—why did the attack on Grandmother only happen now, while I'm working on the case? Why would anyone want to make allegations against me by attacking Alaric's grandmother?
God, why is this happening to me? I've never done anything wrong to anyone. I park my car as I reach my destination. I enter the cafe to meet Mr. Henry Wilson, the private investigator hired by Ian for the investigation. Ian wanted to help, but I couldn't risk involving him. If Alaric found out Ian was helping, he'd be furious and it might ruin their friendship. Alaric needs Ian right now.
I've already briefed Dr. Vincent, but he couldn't come with me due to his patients. He sent me the footage Alaric showed, along with details of the hospital staff. Could someone inside the hospital be helping the culprit? How else could they breach such tight security?
I spot a man in a brown coat and pants at the last table. We greet each other. He asks if I'd like anything, and I order a latte.
I sit across from Mr. Wilson, sipping my latte nervously. He's already shown interest in the details of the hospital incident.
"So, Miss Estella," he begins, his voice calm and measured, "let's delve into what happened at the hospital. You mentioned someone used your identity card to enter Mrs. Easterwood's private room. Have you considered who might have done this?"
I start narrating everything that happened in the hospital. "Of course. It was a horrifying incident. Someone managed to enter Mrs. Easterwood's private room with my registered identity card, wearing a mask and scrubs, and injected a drug into her. They even erased the surveillance footage from 8 PM to 10 PM, but Mr. Alaric Easterwood, Imean patients guardian was able to revive that footage. That's quite troubling."
Mr. Wilson furrows his brow, deep in thought. "Where do you usually keep your identity card?" he asks me.
I responds quickly, "It's always in my wallet or in my office at the hospital. But I never leave it unattended."
Henry Wilson continues, "Is there any possibility someone might have an extra key to your office cabin?"
I shakes my head, "Not that I know of. Only a few trusted staff members have access."
Henry Wilson then asks, "Do you have any suspicions about who could do this to Alaric's grandmother?"
I pause, and feel troubled. "I honestly don't know. It's hard to imagine someone doing such a thing."
Henry Wilson nods thoughtfully, "Miss Estella, it's clear that someone wants to put the blame on you for this incident. As Mr. Ian described, there is someone who is near you all the time or keeping an eye on you. Don't worry, I will handle it.
Can you please describe why someone would use only Mr. Easterwood's grandmother to affect your reputation? I mean, there are plenty of patients you see, some of them influential and wealthy, so why the culprit choose Mrs Easterwood only, Is there any issue between you and Mr. Alaric?."
I take a deep breath before responding, "Well, actually, Mr. Easterwood—Alaric—is my ex-best friend." Henry asks me to elaborate more on why Alaric became my ex-best friend. I continue, "Actually, there was an incident that happened when I was 14 years old. there was a party held in Alaric's house.
Someone pushed Alaric's grandmother from the balcony of their house, and since I was the one who informed everyone about this incident, people started believing that I was the one who pushed her."
Henry Wilson listens attentively, taking notes as I speak. "So, you're saying there's a history between you and Alaric, and this incident at the hospital might be connected to that?"
