On that fateful morning, Estella was enjoying her breakfast when she heard the unmistakable horn of Alaric's car outside her house. Her heart leaped with joy, and she rushed to the door, expecting to see her dear friend. However, when she opened the car door, she was surprised to find someone sitting in the backseat, a girl she had never met before.
Estella took her place in the passenger seat and warmly greeted Alaric, who returned her greeting with a smile. Alaric introduced the girl in the backseat as Mia, but to Estella's surprise, Mia merely nodded in acknowledgment and promptly plugged her earphones into her phone, shutting herself off from the conversation.
Estella couldn't help but feel a bit uncomfortable with the situation. She glanced at Alaric, silently questioning him with her eyes about Mia. They arrived at the school earlier than expected, thanks to Alaric's efficient driving. Alaric decided to inform Estella that he had to go to the principal's office with Mia for some important business. He assured her that he'd meet her at her locker in a little while. Estella walked down the hallway towards her locker, and to her delight, she found her friend Charlotte waiting there. The two friends exchanged warm hugs and shared their excitement and nervousness about the first day of school.
Fifteen minutes later, Alaric returned to Estella, but Mia was not with him. He explained that he had dropped Mia off at her classroom.
Curiosity got the best of Estella, and she asked Alaric to share the story behind Mia's sudden appearance.
Alaric revealed that he had to visit London with his parents due to a tragic incident. Their family friends, Mr. and Mrs. Westwood, had died in an accident, and Mia was their daughter. Since Mia had no other family to turn to, Alaric's parents had taken her into their custody.
She was now in the same school as Alaric and Estella to complete her studies and try to heal from the trauma of her parent's tragic death.
