AUTHOR'S POV
Estella was sitting in her office, carefully looking at the CT scan results of her patient, Ember. It had been more than a month since Ember's cancer treatment started. With God's grace, the medicine was working well, and the cancer was under control.
However, the scan showed that Ember needed surgery immediately. The treatment had helped, but now they had to take the next step to make sure Ember would be completely healthy again.
Estella felt a mix of relief and worry. She was happy that Ember's cancer was responding to the treatment, but she knew that surgery was a big step. Estella was determined to do everything she could to help Ember. They had also received a huge amount of funds for Ember's treatment, which was a blessing.
After reviewing the scan, Estella decided it was time to talk to Dr. Vincent, the senior doctor overseeing Ember's case. She picked up the reports and walked towards Dr. Vincent's room. As she reached the door, she hesitated for a moment. She was about to knock, but she wasn't sure if Dr. Vincent was busy. Taking a deep breath, she gently knocked on the door and opened it.
When Estella stepped inside, she was surprised to see Alaric sitting there with his grandmother, Mrs. Easterwood, but she quickly looked away, focusing on Dr. Vincent instead.
"I'm sorry, Doctor. I thought you were free. I can come back later," Estella said, trying to keep her voice steady.
Dr. Vincent smiled and shook his head. "No, no, Dr. Estella, please come in. I was just about to call you."
Estella nodded and entered the room. She walked over to Mrs. Easterwood and greeted her with a warm hug. "Hello, Granny! How are you? I'm so sorry I haven't visited you."
Mrs. Easterwood smiled and gently patted Estella's cheek. "It's okay, dear. I missed you a lot, but I understand. My little Estella has grown up and become a wonderful doctor. Look at how well you're doing."
Estella couldn't help but smile at Granny's kind words. She had always had a special bond with Mrs. Easterwood, who had been like a grandmother to her. Standing there, she remembered all the times they had spent together, chatting and laughing.
Alaric watched the sweet moment between Estella and his grandmother. It reminded him of the old days when he and Estella used to share everything with Granny. They would spend hours talking and making her laugh. Seeing them together now made him feel a pang of sadness and longing for those happier times.
Estella turned her attention back to Granny and asked, "How have you been feeling, Granny? Are you okay?"
Mrs. Easterwood smiled warmly. "Yes, dear, I'm doing alright. I'm here with Alaric for my weekly checkup. Soon, I'll be starting my physiotherapy."
Estella nodded, relieved to hear that Granny was doing well. She then handed the reports to Dr. Vincent. "Sir, these are the reports you asked for."
Dr. Vincent took the file and placed it on the table. "Thank you, Dr. Estella. I'll review them shortly," he said, then turned to Estella again. "Dr. Estella, could you please take Mrs. Easterwood to see Dr. Arthur for her checkup?"
"Of course, Dr. Vincent," Estella replied.
She turned to Mrs. Easterwood and asked for her permission to take her to the checkup. Granny agreed with a smile, and Estella began to push her wheelchair out of the room. Alaric, wanting to help, stood up to assist, but Mrs. Easterwood gently stopped him.
"Alaric, dear, you can wait for me here while I go with Estella," she said kindly.
Alaric tried to insist, but Granny gave him a firm look that said she had made up her mind. Understanding, Alaric nodded and said, "Okay, I'll wait for you outside."
