AUTHOR'S POV

Dr. Estella Campbell walked alongside Dr. Vincent as they made their way to the Medical Council meeting room. The hallway was quiet, with only the sound of their footsteps echoing softly against the walls.

Estella's heart pounded in her chest, a mix of anxiety and anticipation swirling within her. She had been through so much recently, and now, the moment she had been waiting for was finally here.

As they reached the meeting room, Estella took a deep breath, trying to steady her nerves. She entered the room and saw that almost everyone was already seated. The faces of the council members were serious, their expressions giving nothing away.

Estella felt a wave of uncertainty wash over her. She quickly scanned the room and noticed that one member was missing. Before she could think too much about it, the door opened again, and Alaric Easterwood walked in.

Alaric looked different today. He was neatly dressed, as always, but there was something off about him. His eyes were swollen, as if he hadn't slept all night, or perhaps he had been crying. Estella's heart ached at the sight, but she quickly turned her attention.

Alaric took his seat, his gaze focused on her for a brief moment before he looked down at the table in front of him.

The room was tense with anticipation as the meeting began. A senior member of the council stood up and addressed the room.

"Good morning, everyone. We are here today to announce the decision of the investigation regarding Dr. Estella Campbell. According to the initial evidence, we had found Dr. Campbell to be at fault.

However, after receiving new evidence, we have all come to the conclusion to remove the suspension order placed on Dr. Estella Campbell. She is now cleared of all charges and may resume her position."

Estella felt a wave of relief crash over her,  and tears welled up in her eyes. She had been vindicated. She was free from the accusations that had nearly destroyed her career and her life.

Dr. Vincent, sitting beside her, noticed her tears and gently reached out to hold her hand. It was a small gesture, but it meant the world to Estella. His support had been unwavering, and she felt immense gratitude for his presence in her life. She squeezed his hand in return, silently thanking him for standing by her through it all.

Across the room, Alaric watched the exchange with a mix of emotions. He felt happy for Estella, truly he did. Seeing her cleared of all charges and getting her job back was a relief. But there was also a pang of sadness that gnawed at him.

Since yesterday, he had been hoping—waiting—for just one glance from her, but it never came. Even now, she hadn't looked at him once. His heart felt heavy with the realization that she might be pulling away from him, and the thought scared him more than he wanted to admit.
