It takes me a minute to realize that someone was standing there. When I turn my head, I am mortified. Scarlett's standing there, the wind whipping her ginger hair around, and behind her.. is Carter. I instantly release from Zacks grip.
"Carter, this is...." I pause, honestly terrified. I drop my head. "Exactly what it looks like..."
The alcohol that was coursing through my body before has now decreased.
"I'm so sorry.. I-"
"Save it, Natalie, I thought... I thought I meant more to you than this.."
I see Scarlett tugging Zack away by his ear, whispering probably bad things to him.
"Carter- I- I honestly didn't mean to, I though it was you I-"
"Thinking it was me doesn't make it better, if anything, that makes it worse. How could you?"
He throws something that looks like a ring onto the ground... a promise ring. Emotions rush up to my face.
That's it I collapse to my knees, tears flowing out of my eyes. I can't loose Carter, I can't.
"Don't talk to me again."
And with that, he walks away, back to the bus were I know everything will just get worse.
Stop crying, a voice in my head speaks softly. When I don't stop, it screams.
STOP CRYING.
I stop instantly, my heart beating fast.
I can't stay here, mostly because I know that if I go back to the bus, things will never be the same, so instead, I turn fast on my heels down the ally and run. I run as fast as I can. I don't know where I'm going, and honestly, I don't really care. Something in my head is screaming words, but one, a name, stands out. I run faster, adrenaline pumping through my body and veins.
It's time to fight back. Not just for Carter, but for all the lies that I have been told over the years, all the secrets kept from me. I run, my my eyes set on a deep purple glow in the distance.
I am going to join Ivory.
