The sun was absent, likely blocked by the overwhelmingly cloudy haze. They all piled into the gummi ship, and lifted off.
"This thing is so NEAT! Now that I'm REALLY inside, it feels a lot bigger!" Purah glanced around like an excited child.
"I'm glad that a ship like this is in our possession as opposed to Ganondorfs'." Robbie voiced his thoughts, which earned him a prompt slap on the arm from his lab partner.
"Riku, you said you fought him once right? What was that like?" Sora broke the silence.
Riku kept his eyes on the steering, not even changing his expression. This came as something of a surprise to the rest of the ship who was waiting in anticipation for his response.
"He's...strong." The silver haired boy didn't hide or mince his words. "The first time we ever met, he immediately knew about my ties to the darkness. It made me nervous, and I held back, which let him get away."
"That sounds about right..." Midna clicked her tongue in disgust.
"If it weren't for Link...er, the other Link showing up when he did, he might've beaten me." Riku gave up trying to keep the stoic appearance, now seemingly frustrated. "We need to save him and the others."
Everyone in the ship grew much more determined. They knew their opponent was strong, but they didn't plan on backing down. He had to be stopped, here and now.
As the ship flew over the grassy plains of Hyrule Field, they began to notice the open area littered with tons of heartless.
"No way...this is just like Hollow Bastion..." Sora remembered back.
Before anyone could respond, a flock of large heartless flying in the air seemed to be making their way directly toward the ship.
"You guys are seeing that right?!" Purah panicked.
"Oh no you don't!" Riku got the blasters ready.
"I'm on it!" Sora rushed over to the other seat, readying himself with the controls of the ship's weaponry. Once everything was adjusted, he began firing away at the enemy. He nailed a few of them, but a few managed to avoid the blasts.
"You could do better than that can't you?" Riku mocked him.
"Hey! It's not my fault that I don't do this! This is usually Goofy's thing anyways!" Sora argued back.
"Is this REALLY the time for this?!" Zelda attempted to disrupt the argument.
The ship was quickly surrounded by winged heartless creatures, making it hard for Riku to steer as he tried to avoid their slashes. Sora began his shooting spree, nailing a few of them, but some managing to get out of his range.
"I can't see them all!" Sora admitted.
Link offered to get on the controls himself, claiming that as an archer, his aim might be better.
"That won't apply here." Riku smirked, admittedly amused that Sora got visibly frustrated by the swordsman's comment.
"Maybe I can do it! A scientist of my caliber could easily-" Robbie began before he was lightly bonked on the head.
"Stop acting like you know everything! You werent the one who worked on this ship!" Purah argued.
They all began to debate how to deal with the situation at hand, all the while, Zelda fell silent. She then looked to her hands. She was stronger, she knew that, and if there was a way for her to help them now, then it was time to act.
"Midna..." She suddenly called out.
"Y-yeah?" She responded, obviously confused as to why she was singled out.
