Avoiding the skybound heartless soaring the skies above, Riku and Midna gently made their way toward the opening of the mines. It was dark, something they were fully prepared for as Midna took the torch off of the wall, waving it in front of Riku so he'd ignite it with his magic.

"You could have just struck that on the wall, you know." Riku rolled his eyes.

"What's the fun in that? Besides, you'd really make a princess do all that work?" She mocked the tall boy as they progressed through the cave. Upon turning the corner, they spotted the rail cart that Link had told them about the night beforehand. "He really rode in this thing? With BOMBS? He really is Link!" Midna chuckled as she floated over and inspected the cart. "Well, looks like we have our ride. Time to work your magic!"

Riku scoffed as he followed her lead into the opening of the cart. The backend appeared to be designed with the purpose of holding something.

"He instructed that we heat up the back here, and it'll start moving. I don't think I get how that works." Midna studied the strange contraption. "Then again, that weird ship of yours forces us to smile just to stay in the air."

"Let's not think too much about it, come on." Riku instructed. He unsheathed the weapon on his back, and stuck its tip out. A ball of flame formed on its end, and burst out toward the oddly designed carts opening. As they expected, the cart began to coast across the straightforward railing. For a moment, the path led to the outside, coasting above the rough waters, disturbed by the aggressive movements from the heartless outside that failed to notice them before they ended up back inside the mines.

"Be honest..." Midna suddenly got his attention with her concerned tone. "You see this plan of ours working out?"

Riku raised an eyebrow. It wasn't unusual for Midna to cast doubt, but this time it seemed much more concerning. "Well, it doesn't matter what I think, we have to make it work." He responded, shooting another set of flames into the open chamber.

"Yeah..." Midna's halfhearted response didn't inspire much confidence.

Their short ride finally came to an end as they reached the end of the railway. They hopped out and entered the open pathway which led to an open space, a pool of water sitting still in the cave. There was a bend that ascended on the opposite side. Riku began to approach, but halted quickly as his companion seemed to have drifted toward the water, glaring at her reflection.

"He's the whole reason I look like this." The twilight creature looked at her hands. "He'd put the whole world under his foot if he knew he'd get to power. It's exactly what he did to Zant. It's exactly how he's using those guys to fight us..." She ranted on, her voice becoming shaky in the process. "He did it once...what if he..."

"Hey, hold on now." Riku cut her off. He turned her attention his way as he stepped beside her. He got a glimpse of his own reflection, and couldn't help but smirk. "I'm usually not the optimistic one, that's all Sora. But I know for a fact that if there's anything we don't need to worry about, it's him coming through. I don't know everyone as well as he does, but I know that if he can put his trust in them, then I can put my trust in him."

"Weren't you just telling us on the ship that you lost your cool when you fought Ganondorf? What's stopping that from happening again?"

Once her words came out she noticed that he had yet to respond. She glimpsed in his direction using the water's reflection, only to find that his smile never faded.

"Because I've got you guys to back me up this time." His look transcended from the waters onto her physical form. "I get how you're feeling. Trust me, I've been buried in dark thoughts plenty since leaving our island. But every time I felt like I was drowning, I'd think back to what a certain dummy told me a while back."
