I can't believe that she is so calm about her situation, if it were to be me, I would be so mad. It's like she can read my mind because she says: "I was bit mad, mostly sad in the beginning but after a while I enjoyed living alone way more. It can be stressful at times but now there is no need for me to wear or say or do certain things that I don't want because I'm my own boss now. I like it a lot more now plus a lot of pressure is also gone since I've left." I let her words sink in and yet, somehow I can't seem to understand them. I look at her and I have to say that she does look happier compared to when we went to highschool together. She start singing along to the songs on the radio when she notices me staring. "Oh sorry I'm used to being alone and singing along to the radio", she says. "No no it's fine don't hold back for me", I respond. She gives me a small smile before focusing on the road again. I look out of the window and enjoy the view.
A while later we almost arrive at my house but I don't feel like leaving her yet. "Why don't we grab some lunch together? There's a place not so far from here that I really recommend", I try as I look at her. "Yeah that's a good idea, just give me the directions and I'll bring us there", she agrees to my proposal. I tell her where to go as best as I can and she follows my directions. A few minutes later we arrive at the place and she parks her car. "Can I leave my bag in the car?", I ask her just to be sure. "Yeah of course", she responds while getting out of her car. I also get out and after she closes her car we go inside the building. We go to sit down and a waiter brings the both of us a menu and tells us to take our time to decide. We look at the menu and when the waiter comes back we order the food and drinks we want.
We walk back to her car after eating and paying for our food. "So what did you think about the food?", I ask her once we're back in her car. "I really liked it. It was pretty simple and yet very good, I think I might come back here another time", she exclaims. "That's great to hear!", I respond. After that she starts her car and drives to my house. "Thanks again for everything", I say to her. "No problem, it was actually quite nice having somebody around for once", she states. I take my bag and get out of her car but before closing the door I say "See you next time." She smiles and nods and with that I close the door and watch her drive off before going inside the house. I grab my phone and quickly type a messsage to her when I see my mom in the kitchen. "Hey baby where have you been?", my mom asks. "Well remember that I mentioned that house party?" "Yeah I remember you saying something about that." "Originally I was going to sleep at that house since almost all of us were asked to do so but they all got pretty drunk so I didn't want to stay anymore. So when Chloë announced that she was going home I took my chance and left with her and when she noticed my bag she asked about it and I explained everything to her. It turned out that she hadn't been invited to sleep there and then she asked me where I was going to stay and when I responded that I would find a place she invited me over to her place. So in conclusion I slept at her place and then I helped her buy groceries and we grabbed lunch together and then she brought me home and now here I am." This must have been the longest explanation I ever did for my mom. "Were her parents not bothered by it?", my mom questions. "No she lives alone", I inform her. "Oh that's great darling, I hope you thanked her", she remarked. "Yeah I did don't worry mom." She smiles and kisses me on the cheek before leaving me alone in the kitchen.
