"People are going to think that we're shopping for ourselves when they see us", Jake jokes when we arrive at the store. "You know what kind of surprises me?", I ask him. "No I don't, tell me", he replies. "That the boys haven't noticed it yet", I say. "Noticed what?", he asks confused. "That we're dating. I mean, we've been dating for more than three months now", I explain. "Maybe it means that we should tell them ourselves. Who knows, they might have a clue but don't dare ask us?", Jake responds. "Yeah maybe", I reply. We've entered the store by now and are walking around to see what they have. We even ask an employee to help us with choosing a car seat because it's very confusing to see all the different types. After that we decide on a beautiful stroller and a crib. We then also buy more milk and diapers and I can't help but take a look in the clothes. After using Dakota's card to pay for everything, which kind of made me feel bad but still, we took the stuff and had to do a whole game of tetris in order to fit it in the car.
"You guys are back!", Matthew exclaims when we just got out of the car. Dakota joins him outside with little Owen sleeping in his arms. "Yeah sorry we took so long", I reply. "No worries, so did you find everything?", Dakota asks. "Yes we did, I'll give you your card back later", I answer. He nods and takes a look at the stuff when Jake opens the trunk. "That looks amazing", Dakota says when he sees it. "We tried to find some good stuff without it being too expensive", Jake says while taking the box with the stroller inside. Matthew takes the box with the crib and I take the car seat and some of the other stuff. "Quick question though, where is the kid going to sleep?", Matthew asks. "We'll sort out that other room so that we can put everything for him there", I reply. "Are you sure? There is still a lot of stuff there", Jake asks me. "Don't worry, I'll find a place for it." We put everything together before doing a little haul of the other stuff we bought. "I don't know what I would've done without you guys", Dakota says after he put Owen in the crib. "Don't worry about it Dakota, he's going to be fine, we'll help you as much as we can", Jake replies.
"Call me when you get dinner ready", I tell the guys before going upstairs. I sort out the room as much as possible during the time before dinner since I have to work in the evening. Before I leave for work I remind the guys to feed and change the baby before putting him to bed. "Call me if something happens", I tell them. "Girl you look tired as hell", Amelia, my work bestie says when she sees me. "Can't help it, a lot happened today", I reply. "Ooh tell me", she responds. I explain about Dakota and Owen and everything that happened with Alice and all that stuff. "Well damn, the kid is lucky to have you as his aunt", she sighs after hearing everything. "Lucky isn't really the word I would use", I retort. "Oh come on, quit tearing yourself down so much", she argues with me. "I was just saying", I shrug. "Well you weren't saying anything close to the truth", she replies. By this time the bar starts getting crowded again so we stop talking and concentrate on our jobs.
"I'm so glad our shift is finally over", Amelia groans when we leave the bar after closing. "Yeah me too, can't wait to climb into my bed", I reply. We bid our goodbyes, get into our cars and go home. I arrive home at around 6 a.m., feeling so drained from the busy night. When I walk up the stairs, I hear the baby cry and someone talk to him. I go into the room and see Jake walking around with Owen in his arms. "What's wrong?", I ask. "He doesn't want to go back to sleep anymore", Jake whispers. "When was the last time he ate something?", I ask him. "I think it was around midnight maybe", he replies. "God Jake we're talking about a newborn, he's probably very hungry right now. I'll go warm up some milk for him", I say before quickly going downstairs. When I'm back upstairs Jake is sitting in the chair I put there so I hand him the bottle and he gives it to Owen, who starts drinking it immediately. I watch as Jake gives Owen the bottle and also burps him before he puts him back in the crib. "You should go to sleep angel, you look very tired", he says after giving me a kiss on my head. "Yeah I know, I just wanted to make sure the kid was okay", I reply while walking to my room.
