Kai was discharged after 3 weeks of hospitalization under constant observation. He's prescribed painkillers, and sleeping pills and is in need of a wheeling chair until the burns on his feet and legs fully heal.
After his conversation with Beomgyu and realizing his precious Cadillac was wrecked, he sent his brother to a trusted car dealership to choose a car he wished to buy.
A white Aston Martin picks him up from the entrance to the hospital. He wheels himself towards the car and sees Beomgyu opening the door and he rushes to help Kai in.
He folds the wheelchair and puts it in the back seat. "Tasteful pick," Kai comments. "Are you happy with it?"
Beomgyu nods. "I still can't believe you paid this much for a car," he mumbles.
"Filthy rich, Hyung."
"Right." he still has a hard time wrapping his head around it. He had been so involved with his own life; that he had completely missed the whole money thing.
It is crazy to think how far up high Kai has gotten them from their very low. He almost can't believe his little brother did it by himself.
Kai clears his throat. "Hyung," he calls.
"What is it, Hyuka?"
"Would it be alright for me to make my return to college?"
"Oh." Beomgyu's eyebrows arch into half circles over his surprised eyes. "Of course, if you want to." he rushes to say. "Do you?" he stops at a stop light and takes a second to look at Kai's pondering face.
"I should. I started something, it would be wrong to leave it unfinished." his father would say the same if he saw Kai dropping out, again.
He'd look at him and say "This is not my strong-minded boy, now, is it?" And after a long thought, Kai would agree with him.
"It's up to you," Beomgyu says. "But you've missed over a month of this semester, how will you catch up."
"Taehyun's notes do wonder."
"I'd love for you to be back on campus, Hyuka," Beomgyu admits. "I think it's a good idea, I really do."
Kai nods.
"We can study together in the library, and sit together when we have breaks, or maybe grab coffee... did you know Soobin-Hyung started working there as a barista? So, we can visit him at work. And maybe you can be at Hyung's next recital, and maybe even join a party or two-"
"Hyung." Kai stops him.
Beomgyu closes his mouth; he drives silently. "You know," he says after a long period of silence. "We haven't gotten to do that in high school." he inhales. "Be brothers and all that..."
"Do you have regrets?"
"Every day," Beomgyu answers in full honesty. "I know it's a little too late, but I want you in my life. I want to run in the same circles and I want more than to just sit together during dinner and exchange good mornings and good nights." he pouts his lips and turns the wheel. "I want to be able to say Look, it's my little brother. To everyone I study with. I want us to go grocery shopping together when we need to and I don't know- play the last popular video games on the TV."
Kai stays silent, just absorbing Beomgyu's ramble.
"We've never gotten to do that." he closes his mouth back having said all he wanted to. In his voice, Kai hears Beomgyu is upset but he's not sure on what or on who, Kai or himself.
"I see." Kai nods. "What is the last video game?"
Beomgyu blinks, out of all this was what Kai chose to fixate on. "LoL"
