•SOPHENE•

Another morning, I woke with a start, my eyes fluttering open as the first rays of sunlight peeked through the curtains. I sat up in bed, stretching my arms above my head, before moving to stand in front of the window.
Through the glass, I could see the world outside slowly waking up. Birds were flitting from tree to tree, and the sun cast a soft, golden glow over the neighborhood.

My eyes flicked down to the window sill, where I spotted a small piece of paper. Curiosity piqued, I quickly grabbed it and unfolded it, my eyes scanning the words written on the page.

Agad ko itong binasa. "Hi Sophene? You miss me aren't you?" I froze after I read the words on the page. My heart lurched in my chest.

Sino 'to? How did someone know my name? And why were they writing such a strange, creepy message?

"What's that?" Tanong nya.

I shook my head. "Nothing. Ano lang 'yon, scratch paper ko..."

Napatingin sya doon sa papel kaya naisipan ko na ibahin ang usapan. "A-ano 'yang hawak mo?"

"It's your breakfast. Kumain ka na, don't starve yourself." Sabi nya sabay ipinatong ang pagkain sa bedside table.

"Anyway, may pupuntahan ako mamaya kaya kumain ka sa tamang oras ha?" He said as he kissed my forehead.

He kneeled in front of me, his hand coming to rest gently on my belly. He leaned in close, his lips gently pressing against the fabric of my shirt.

"I love you," he whispered, his voice filled with tenderness and awe. "Both of you."

He then stood up and embraced me in a tight hug. Our bodies melded together, his strong arms encircling me in a protective embrace. We stayed like that for a few moments, simply enjoying the feeling of being close to each other, our breaths mingling as we held each other tightly.

I couldn't help but smile as I felt my husband's strong arms around me. My heart swelled with love and gratitude for him. I never expected him to be this sweet.

"Kumain ka na, baka lumamig pa 'yang pagkain na niluto ko." He said as he gently pulled away from the hug.

"H'wag kang magpapagutom, you need to take care of yourself and our baby." He added.

"Ikaw ba talaga ang nagluto nito?" I teased him.

He nodded. "Of course. Ako talaga ang nagluto nyan. I wanted to learn how to cook so I can take care of you and our baby."

Kinuha ko ang pagkain. "Wow, sarap naman nito. Anong tawag dito?" Tanong ko matapos ko itong matikman.

"Steak tartare."

"Huh? Anong klaseng pangalan 'yan?"

"Sikat na pagkain 'yan sa France, I actually learned about steak tartare when I was living there. It's a classic French dish that's made with raw ground beef and various seasonings and toppings. I even had it on the menu at my restaurant there." He uttered.

Biglang nagbukas ang pintuan. "Boss. Oras na po, halika na." Sabi ng tauhan ni Zadeo.

"It's time. I have to go, finish your breakfast okay?" He insisted.
