" hi Taylor, I'm so sorry to trouble you, I know it's late where you are, but something has come up that I feel I really need to make you aware of "
" w-what sort of thing? "
" well as you know, it's been over a year since the trial and Joe has asked for visitation rights, and the judges have agreed, wanting to trial them out. I'm so sorry Taylor, I've been trying to handle your side, but Joe is extremely persistent about this and we can't over turn the judge "
" y-you can't be serious. No no no. This can't be happening " Taylor began to sob
" I'm so so sorry, right now we can't do anything. The first few visitations will be supervised for now, in a family court institution in London, per Mr Alwyn's request, he'll be able to spend time with her their doing a few small activities with a social worker keeping a close eye. The date is set for May 5th. So in 2 weeks " her lawyer explained, sympathy thick in his voice
" I'm not agreeing to this, she's ours. He has no rights over her, surely it's my decision wether this happens or not " Taylor was so angry, just as their life was coming together just how they wanted it. He had to come back. Ruining everything " and Colette, she will hate this, it's her worst nightmare, why can't they see that? "
" unfortunately, that's not how it works. In these situations, the judge has the final say "
" what? Over the person who literally gave birth to her? She's my child "
" that's true, but in the eyes of the law, Joe signed her birth certificate too and she is also his child. Stupidly, being assigned custody never meant his name was removed from that, that would've had to be changed to just your name or if Travis was ever to adopt her and then in that case his name would go there and but unfortunately we didn't change it so he has the ability to request back his rights "
" why was I never made aware of this beforehand then? " Taylor stuttered, her voice thick with anger
" I'm not entirely sure, I'm doing everything I can. But this is just how these things go "
Taylor began to bawl, she couldn't believe this. She was angry at everyone. At Joe: for none other than the obvious reasons, at her lawyer: for never making her aware of this possibility, at the judge: for allowing him to get rights with no testaments. She was so angry. And she was in the middle of her tour again, how the hell was she supposed to get Colette to London just to see him if she wasn't touring there. But what was upsetting her most was having to tell Colette who she knew was not going to be happy at all. She hated Joe. Travis was her dad.
Travis grew concerned as he watched Taylor end the call, tears streaming like a waterfall down her cheeks. He'd heard most of the conversation, and he also felt infuriated. They were happy, and so content at the moment, Colette was finally beginning to forget the pain Joe had put them through and now it's as though that's all going to be dragged back up to the surface, almost like time was going backwards. Travis also feared the repercussions that would occur when Joe heard that Colette now didn't refer to him as her dad, it was all absolutely ridiculous.
" Tay, shhh, please sweetie it's okay. We're going to work through this together, I promise you we will " Travis held her in his arms, her quietly sobbing into his chest
