The sound of sirens echoed behind them as they ran into the emergency room, surrounded by security, Travis was holding Colette like a baby, who was still fighting and gasping for air. A nurse immediately approached them, seeing the severity of the situation and ordered for Travis to lay Colette down on a gurney so they could check her over, pulling a curtain to get a little bit of privacy.
" did she eat anything beforehand? Something that could've triggered an allergic reaction or something? " a doctor asked, assessing Colette with a stethoscope
" n-no. She's never been allergic to anything, she was just playing on the slide with her friends " Taylor explained, Travis grabbing ahold of her hand to let her know he was there
" I- it hurts mo-mommy " Colette stuttered through short breathes
" oh baby, I know. But the doctor is going to help you, okay? " Taylor rushed to her side, pushing the hair off the small girls face and rubbing her head lovingly
" Colette, I'm going to put this funny looking mask on you, it's okay, it's going to give you oxygen to help you breathe a little bit easier, okay? " the doctor told her, pulling an oxygen mask over her face as the small girl's breathe began to even out slightly, no where near as good as normal but better than it was " okay, I'm going to run some tests but from her symptoms I'm led to believe she had a severe asthma attack, is this something she's ever been diagnosed with before? " the doctor questioned, pulling himself up and speaking to Taylor and Travis
" no never " Taylor sighed
" that's okay. It's common for it to appear a little bit later in life, if this is the case, we'll get her administered with an inhaler and we'll show you both how to use it to limit this happening again, try not to worry. This isn't rare at all in children Colette's age and you weren't to have known " he reassured
They moved Colette to a private room, after doing some tests, she was still struggling, but it was better than it was and the oxygen mask really was helping her. Thankfully, for now, she had fallen asleep, still wheezing with erratic breaths, but it was good that she was resting.
" I feel so bad trav, they did all that for us and we just ran out and left " Taylor spoke, hot tears falling from down cheeks
" sweetheart no, they all understand. They've even all messaged asking if she's okay and that we had every reason to leave, they are just worried Tay, no one is mad at us " Travis hugged her as she sniffled with a nod. It was such a shame, all that excitement and happiness of the day was taken away so quickly, but they just had to be grateful that they had such good friends and family that would do anything for them to help. " Brit said not to tell you, but the boys are really enjoying a piece of cake right now " he chuckled, showing Taylor the photo of the boys sat in their high chairs, cake and pink frosting smeared up their face . Taylor stifled a giggle, she didn't really let the boys have a lot of sugar yet, but she didn't mind just this once, it had been a special occasion after all and they seemed to be happy.
" m-mommy? " Colette coughed, waking up from a short nap
" I'm here baby, you're okay. Deep breaths " Taylor rushed to her side, taking her little hand in hers as the 6 year old did what she was told, her breathing making a big improvement
