The family of 6 had been at home for a few days now, thankfully, they brought baby Rosie home from the hospital on the Friday evening, meaning they had the whole weekend to settle in and not have to worry about school runs or work, but today it was Monday morning, early Monday morning. Rosie was up for 4th time since she'd been put down at 11pm, and it was easy to say that Taylor was truly exhausted. She'd been doing something that the nurse called cluster feeding, which Taylor had experienced with Colette, but she forgot how draining it was. Of course she has Travis this time, but if Rosie was hungry, their wasn't much he could do to help that.
As it was now 5am, Rosie sucking away hungrily, Taylor was dozing off, if the baby wasn't awake, she was and it was starting to catch up to her. In her mind, she told herself that once she put Rosie back down to sleep – a whole task in itself as it seemed as though the newborn despised her bassinet and would rather contact sleep on one of her parents – she could at least get another hour and a half sleep before they would have to get up and get Colette ready for school.
" Tay, Tay baby can you unlatch her? " Travis gently woke Taylor, wanting to take the baby to change her so Taylor could fall back to sleep.
" huh? Oh right...shit is that the time? We fell asleep like this and she's been latched on the whole time? I'm gonna be empty " Taylor panicked, seeing the clock and realising it was 7am and she'd clearly drifted off whilst the newborn was feeding.
" sh it's fine. I'll just give her a bottle next feed, go to sleep, I got this " Travis protested
" but trav I didn't burp her for 2 hours, so now her belly is gonna hurt " she fretted, feeling like an awful mom for falling asleep meaning her baby would have to deal with the repercussions.
" she'll be okay Tay, if she fell asleep it probably means she didn't eat much anyway. I'll keep an eye on her, you just go back to bed " he delicately took the baby off of her chest, laying her on his shoulder that was clad with a burp cloth, tucking the blanket back around Taylor and placing a gentle kiss on her forehead.
He crept out their room, heading downstairs to place the 4 day old in her swing, where he hoped she'd stay asleep for a little while longer so he could deal with his other children. He could hear the twins up and awake, talking to each other in their cribs and when he pushed open their door, he noticed Noah on the ground, not in his crib, his blanket clutched in his hand, pacifier in the other as he was tormenting his brother who was still trapped inside his crib.
" buddy how did you get down here? " Travis rose his eyebrows, confused.
" out dadda " Knox whined, reaching his arms for Travis
" I'll get you out little man " he said, lifting the toddler from his crib, turning his attention back to Noah who was now giggling up at his father
" climbs out " was the babble that could be heard as Travis' eyes widened, their 20 month old had climbed out of his crib?
" oh my, buddy? Mommy is gonna be so stressed when she finds out you can climb out of you crib. What are we gonna do with you? " Travis chuckled, he couldn't even be mad. He probably did the same when he was their age, if not younger, it was clear to see who they got it from. But truthfully, how were they going to manage this?
