Y/n had... lost? To Izuku?

They gripped onto their still bleeding arm, looking at the boy standing in front of them. Izuku Midoriya wasn't all that strong, or all that quick. But he was smart. Izuku Midoriya had the one thing Y/n lacked: logic and reasoning.

Y/n stood behind the boy who was standing in the center of the arena. Izuku Midoriya... they didn't know the boy all that well. They knew he was curious, they knew he was smart, but there was something new in him Y/n hadn't picked up on before.

There was a spark in him, "Y/n!" Izuku shouted, turning to face his classmate, "We did it!"

"Yeah..." Y/n held back a grimace, "We did."

"Deku!" A feminine voice called out, coming closer, "I can't believe you got first place!" It was Ochako Uraraka. Y/n hadn't spoken much to the girl, they had no real feelings about her, "I'm so jealous!"

"U-Uh..." Izuku stammered, "It was nothing!"

Uraraka turned to the half demon, "And you too, Y/n! You did awesome!"

Y/n nodded. They turned around and left, not wanting to be reminded of their terrible loss.

"W-wait!" Izuku called, "Y/n, is your arm alright..? I know you can regenerate, but.."

Y/n turned and stared at Izuku, "I'll be fine. It's nothing I haven't dealt with before," They told him.

"Alright!" Midnight called from her podium, "The first game for the first years is over! Now let's look at the standings!"

On a large holographic screen, Izuku's face popped up next to the number one, then Y/n's with the number two, and Todoroki's with the number three. Many more people followed, though Y/n didn't pay much attention after Bakugo's face at number 4.

"Only the top forty two players will proceed," Midnight announced, "But don't be too bummed out if you didn't make the cut! There will be plenty to do," Midnight took a pause to lick her already plump and shiny lips, "Now the real fun is about to begin.. The chance to fully move yourselves into the limelight! Give it your best!"

Bakugo growled beside Y/n, obviously pissed he didn't come in first place.

"Let's see what we have in store for you next!" The holographic wheel from the first game began spinning again, "Will your wildest fantasies come to life?" It kept spinning, putting the first years and everyone in the stands on edge, "The waiting is torture.. Prepare yourselves... for this!"

The screen finally stopped, landing on the cavalry battle. Kaminari groaned, "Cavalry battle? I'm terrible at those.."

Mineta seemed to be excited about it, "Oh!" He exclaimed, "Yes!"

"Allow me to explain," The screen switched from the spinner to an image of Thirteen and Present Mic carrying All Might, "The participants will form teams of two-to-four people as they see fit. In theory, it's the same as a regular playground game, but there is one difference," Midnight paused, "Each player has been assigned a point value based on the results from the obstacle course."

"I get it," Rikido said as he grimaced slightly, "It's a point based system like the enterance exams. Seems simple enough."

Ochako nodded, "So that means each team will have a different point value based on which students are on it!"

Mina hummed in agreement, "Uh-huh!"

"Shut up and let me explain things to you!" Midnight roared, "Now then, the point assignments go up by incriminates of five starting from the bottom. For example, 42nd place is worth five points, and 41st is worth ten. And the points assigned to the first place contestant is... ten million!"

Suddenly, Y/n didn't feel so bad about losing. In fact, they didn't feel bad at all.

"That's right," Midnight smiled, "It's a game of survival of the fittest with a chance for those at the bottom to overthrow the top!" Midnight laughed slightly, "Those at the top will suffer the most," She told everyone, "That's something you'll have to learn here at U.A. Show us what Plus Ultra means!" Midnight pointed to Izuku, "Izuku Midoriya placed first in the qualifier, so he's the one worth ten million!"

"The game itself will last fifteen minutes. Individual points will be added together to reach your team total. Everyone will know how much you're worth thanks to these headbands," The screen showed an image of All Might wearing a white headband with the bold number '50' on it, "Swipe as many headbands are you can to raise your team's score. Stolen headbands must be worn from the neck up. So the more you steal, the harder it'll be to manage them."

"And another thing, even if your headband gets stolen or your team falls down, you can keep playing till time's up!"

Momo hummed, "It's anyone's game, then.."

Rikido nodded in agreement, "And since there are 42 contestants there'll be ten or twelve teams fighting on the field the entire time."

Aoyama sighed, "Sounds hard.." He complained.

"So.. if you lose your headband at the start you have more time to make up a plan!"

"I dunno, Mina," Tsuyu said, "Maybe we should wait and see how the teams turn out before strategizing.."

"This is going to be rough," Midnight said, "You may use your quirks as much as you like. But, there are still rules. Make a team fall on purpose and I'll slap you with a red card. You'll be disqualified!"

Bakugo looked away and scoffed.

"Now, you have fifteen minutes to build your teams! I recommend you get started!"

Y/n blinked. They weren't much of a team player, so an event like this wasn't their strong suit. They were really only good at one-on-one conflict. Or one-on-five. Any one-on anything would work. Y/n just wasn't good with teams.

"Hey! Y/n!" A girl called. Y/n turned to where the voice was coming from and saw Yaoyorozu, "Do you want to team up?"

Y/n looked at her for a moment, "...Me?" They asked, "Are you sure? I don't have an arm, Yaoyorozu." Y/n looked at their classmate like she was stupid.

"Oh! Just call me Yaomomo!" She assured, "And it's okay! You can regenerate it!"

Y/n shook their head, "Not in the sun, no."

"Then.." Yaomomo unzipped her uniform slightly, and from her chest came an umbrella, "Here! This should help, right?" She asked.

Y/n nodded, "Yes.." They looked back at the girl. They didn't understand why she would go through all that effort just to get Y/n- who hadn't done well in the obstacle course- to join her team, "Thank you, Yaomomo."

Yaoyorozu nodded, "It's no problem, Y/n!" She said, "Let's find some others too, it shouldn't just be us!"

Yaomomo handed Y/n the umbrella. It shaded Y/n nicely, allowing their arm to begin healing again.

"Hey! L/n!" A familiar voice called out to Y/n, "Just ditch that 1-A girl and join my team!"

Y/n turned around and smiled awkwardly, "Sorry, Monoma... I've already agreed to be on Yaomomo's team.." They said before turning and walking away.

"Y/n, are you coming?"

"Yes, sorry!" Y/n shouted to Yaomomo. They rushed over to meet with her.

"We've got Todoroki here as well, and I think Iida's coming too," She explained, "That makes four of us."

Todoroki nodded, "We need a plan," He said.

"I think I have one," Iida interrupted, joining their group, "I, Y/n, and Yaoyorozu will be the horse, and Todoroki will be the rider," He explained, "Y/n's ability to jump high and fast, as well as my speed will allow us to have good mobility. Yaoyorozu should be on the ground to summon anything we might need quickly. And Todoroki can right the other riders with his quirk."

"Sounds good," Yaomomo said.

Todoroki nodded, "That's fine."

Y/n hummed, "Always smart, Ten-Ten," They praised.

"Time's up!"
