Chapter 46: Pure Work

After the meeting, Jho went to Geo's office para mag-usap ulit while the artists left after taking pictures with me.

Maloi was only there sitting while reading the contract. I knew she was looking for something na pwedeng maging reason para hindi siya pumayag. But I knew she would. This was her career and she needed to be professional. Set aside the feelings for the betterment of everybody.

"What are you looking for?" I asked at tinabihan siya.

Maloi flinched and shook her head. "Wala. Nirereview ko lang. Baka kasi may mga malabag ako if ever."

"Ah." I slowly nodded and looked at the contract too. Medyo malapit kami sa isa't isa pero hindi na siya gaanong umiiwas. Baka nireready niya na sarili niya since sooner or later magtatrabaho na kaming dalawa na magkasama.

I never thought that this day would come. I didn't want to use this opportunity to get closer pero I didn't have any other choice.

I want her back and I will do everything to have her back.

"What should I call you then? Cole pa rin?" Maloi asked and looked at me. "Ang taas ng tingin sa ’yo ni Geo. Baka mamaya kapag casual lang tayo mag-usap, magalit sa akin."

"Edi sabihin mo, sinabi ko." I chuckled. "Besides, hindi tayo makakapagwork ng maayos kung hindi tayo komportable sa isa't isa. Don't you think?"

She slowly nodded and smiled. "Don't worry, magwowork tayo."

"Double meaning." I reminded her.

Maloi rolled her eyes. "Hindi ako magiging comfortable kung lalandiin mo ’ko ’no. Sapakin ko nguso mo."

I laughed and nodded. Tumayo na ako dahil siguro tapos na rin ang meeting nila Jho at kailangan ko nang umuwi. But before I could leave the conference room, Jho and Geo entered. It seemed like they were about to announce something.

"Ah, Ms. Vergara and Maloi. Ms. Robles and I decided na para makapagtrabaho kayo ng maayos, we will give you two free vacation sa isang private island." Geo announced.

"Same island?" Maloi asked at umayos nang upo. "Akala ko ba you're not going to use it na?"

"What's on that island?" I asked and furrowed my brows.

"That island is where we usually stay kapag gumagawa ng music si Maloi. Mas nakakapag-isip kasi siya kapag nasa beach siya at maganda ang paligid niya." Geo explained.

"Complete gamit doon for recording and such. Walang masyadong tao. Sobrang peaceful." Maloi added.

"Pupunta tayong apat?" I probed.

"No," Jho said. "Kayong dalawa lang. The composer/producer and the singer. Kung kailangan ninyo ng help namin you can call us. May gagawin pa kasi kami ni Geo for the promotion of it."

Geo nodded as an indication na nag-agree na siya sa desisyon ni Jho.

I turned to Maloi and she seemed okay with it kaya pumayag na rin ako. Ako pa ba aarte?

"Then it's settled. I have a private chopper na dadalhin kayo roon. By next week siguro ang start. Is that okay with you, Ms. Vergara?" Geo asked.

"Yeah. It's fine." I nodded.

Maloi raised her thumb, then stood up. "Tapos na ba?"

"Yeah, you can go home." Geo answered.

"Cole, mauna ka na. May gagawin pa kasi ako after this." Jho smiled at me and I nodded.

Once again, they left the conference at naiwan na naman kaming dalawa ni Maloi.

"Babalik ka na ng condo?" I asked.

"Yeah."

"Sumabay ka na sa akin. Para hindi ka na rin mahirapan maghanap ng taxi." I offered.

"Sure."

I was startled nang hindi man lang siya naghesitate. Perhaps, she was really trying to be comfortable around me. And I wouldn't lie. I like it.

Nang makarating kami sa parking lot at makapasok ng kotse ay agad ko siyang tinulungan sa pag-ayos ng seatbelt niya. Wala rin siyang reklamo. Hindi ko alam kung dapat ba akong manibago.

"Are you sure okay lang na tayong dalawa lang doon?" I asked while driving.

"Wala namang masama, Cole. It's for work." She deadpanned.

I simply nodded. "Thank you for agreeing to work with me."

"I should be thankful because you agreed, Cole." This time ramdam ko na ang tingin niya sa akin. "I hope what will happen to that island is purely work. Ayoko nang kahit anong personal. We'll only talk about work and nothing else."

"I can't promise you that."

"Don't promise anything." Maloi sighed. "Kahit ako, hindi ko alam kung anong mangyayari roon. Kung kakainin ko ba lahat ng sinabi ko last time. But I don't want to open my heart again. Nakakapagod kang mahalin."

I was hurt. I deserved this though.

"I know."

"Don't be so offended." I felt Maloi's hand on my legs. "I'm just saving myself, okay?"

I nodded.

Pagkatapos kong ihatid si Maloi sa condo ay dumiretso na rin ako sa unit ko para mag-ayos. Next week, we'll be under one roof. Next week would be different. Next week everything would change.

And I hope next week, maging okay na kami.
