Chapter 49: Prove It

While writing lyrics ay hindi ko matanggal ang tingin ko sa nakakunot na noong si Colet. Kanina pa siya ganito pero ’yung mga babaeng staff ng island ay kinikilig pa rin habang pinapanuod siya.

Bakit ba sila nandito? Naghatid lang naman sila ng pagkain e. Bakit hindi pa sila umalis?

"Maloi, take a look at this." Sophie showed me her tablet and put an earphone on my ear before playing the beat she made. "Ayos ba?"

"Yeah. Ang pop lang pakinggan."

"Aren't you going to try pop music?" she asked.

"She prefers soft melody music, Sophie." Colet intervened without looking at us. Nakatingin pa rin siya sa sinusulat niya na hindi ko alam kung ano.

Simula kaninang nakita niya kami ni Sophie ay galit na galit na siya. Hindi ko rin alam kung bakit pati ako nadamay.

"Ms. Colet, ’yung phone po ninyo," The staff said at inabot ito kay Colet.

She stood up at lumabas ng cottage kung saan kami nagtatrabaho. She didn't excuse herself too. Para lang kaming hangin ni Sophie ngayon dito.

"You're Colet's ex girlfriend ’di ba?" Sophie asked and sat beside me. "I like you."

"Ah?" I furrowed my brows.

"Not romantically, silly." She chuckled. "To be honest, I regret stealing something from her. I know how much she treasured that song but my manager told me to do it. And that time, sobrang desperate na ako magkaroon ng song. After that, I decided to be a producer na lang dahil hindi kinaya ng konsensya ko."

"What you did is wrong." I cleared my throat. "Colet's possessive. Kung anong kanya, kanya lang dapat."

"I know." Sophie winked. "Pero ang saya kaya niyang inisin." She stood up and kissed the top of my head.

I knitted my brows at sinundan siya ng tingin. I saw Colet looking at us habang hawak pa rin ang phone at panigurado ay may kausap pa. Magagalit na naman ang isang ’to. Ang lakas kasi ng trip ni Sophie, hindi na lang manahimik. Pati tuloy ako nadadamay.

After work ay bumalik na ulit kami sa cabin. Hindi ako pinapansin ni Colet maybe because of what Sophie did. Lakas pa naman magselos nito. Wala namang kami.

"Maligo ka na." She coldly said and slumped on the couch. Her eyes were still on her phone. Hindi pa rin siya tapos sa ginagawa niya kaya nagtataka na ako.

I decided to position myself behind her to peak on what she was doing, but she immediately hid it.

"Damot."

"Maligo ka na," she said again.

"Tingin muna." I chuckled and tried to snatch her phone pero agad niyang nilayo ito. At dahil wala sa vocabulary ko ang magpatalo ay hinabol ko siya, but she kept on raising her hand para hindi ko maabot iyon.

Hanggang sa matumba kaming dalawa at pumaibabaw ako sa kanya. My heart pounded the moment our eyes locked. Damn.

I was about to stand when Colet hugged me using her one hand kaya lalo akong napahiga sa kanya. Putakte. Baka marinig niya heart beat ko. Ang lakas pa naman ng kabog.

"Do you like Sophie?" she asked.

"Gago ka ba?" I rolled my eyes and tried to stand up pero mahigpit ang pagkakakapit niya sa akin.

"Yes or no."

"No." I answered pero hindi niya pa rin ako pinapakawalan. However, I could see the smile creeping into her lips. Kinikilig na naman si tanga.

"Okay, sabi mo e." She let go of me at pareho na kaming tumayo. "Maligo ka na. Tapos let's watch the stars outside."

"For?" I raised my brows.

"You like watching stars right?" She asked back.

"Not anymore, Colet." I sighed. "Every time I see one naiinis na ako."

"Ah." Colet sighed too. "Why?"

"I used to admire that star, not until I found out na ginagago niya ako." I looked at her sternly.

Colet fell silent.

"Joke lang." I chuckled. "See you later."

I saw Colet on the shore kaya naglakad na ako palapit sa kanya. She was watching the waves and not the stars since wala naman talagang stars ngayon.

"Cole..." I called her name. "You're drinking?" I furrowed my brows when I saw na may hawak siyang bote.

"Yeah." She nodded and motioned for me to sit beside her which I did.

"Why do you want to watch the stars?" I asked.

"When I was a kid, my mom used to tell me na kapag may pinagsisisihan ka, ibulong mo lang daw sa mga stars." She smiled sadly. "Sadly, wala sila."

"Bakit? Pinagsisisihan mo bang tinanggap mo ’yung trabaho na ’to at na-stuck ka sa ’kin?" I asked again.

Colet chuckled. "Of course not."

"Then what?"

"Nothing." She smiled at me again before drinking sa bote ng alak niya. "You won't believe me if I told you."

"Babalik na naman ba tayo sa past?" I asked. Hindi na ako natigil kakatanong kasi palaging walang context sinasabi niya. "Let's move forward, Cole. Let's move on."

"Akala mo naman madali."

"Madali nga sa ’yo na palitan ako. Madali lang ’yang move on na ’yan sa ’yo." I chuckled and stole her liquor.

"Nakausad ka na ba?" she asked with a soft and calm voice.

Natigilan ako sa tanong niya. Nakausad na ba ako?

"Paano ako uusad sa ’yo?" I looked her in the eyes. "Kung sa bawat kanta na maririnig ko, ikaw naaalala ko."

Colet averted her gaze, feeling guilty of what she did.

"Maybe next time, Lucky." She pursed her lips. "Maybe in another life, magiging perfect girlfriend ako sa ’yo. I won't do the things I did. I won't hurt you."

"What do you mean next life?" I chuckled. "I want you to love me in this life, Cole. I want you to prove yourself to me that you love me."

"Can I?" she asked.

"Ayoko na makipagtagu-taguan sa ’yo. If you can prove yourself. Then I guess, you deserve me."
