(Violet POV)

The music thumped through the house, each beat resonating in my chest. The party was in full swing, and I was having the time of my life. My best friend, Maloi Ricalde, and I had promised to let loose tonight, and so far, we were keeping our word.

I laughed as Maloi twirled me around the makeshift dance floor in the living room, her bright smile matching the twinkling lights strung up around us. Her energy was infectious, and I felt invincible with her by my side.

As the song ended, I excused myself to grab a drink. I made my way through the crowd to the kitchen, my heart still racing from the dance. I reached for a soda when a voice behind me made me pause. "Hey, Violet, right?" I turned to see a tall, dark-haired girl leaning casually against the counter. She had a confident smile and an air of effortless charm.

"Yeah, that's me," I replied, smiling back. "And you are?"

"Emily," she said, extending her hand. "I've seen you around. You look amazing tonight."

"Thanks," I said, feeling a slight blush creep up my cheeks. "You too."

Emily and I chatted for a bit, and I found myself enjoying her company. She was funny and easy to talk to. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that someone was watching me. I glanced over my shoulder to see Maloi standing in the doorway, her eyes narrowed and jaw set. "Everything okay?" Emily asked, following my gaze.

"Yeah, just my friend," I said, waving Maloi over. "Maloi, come meet Emily." Maloi strode over, her smile tight. "Hi, Emily," she said, her tone colder than usual. "Hey," Emily replied, seemingly unfazed. "Nice to meet you."

"So, Violet," Maloi said, turning to me, "wanna dance some more?"

"Sure," I said, feeling a bit of tension in the air. "I'll catch you later, Emily."

As Maloi led me back to the dance floor, her grip on my hand was a bit firmer than necessary. We started dancing again, but something had changed. Maloi's usual carefree demeanor was replaced by a fierce intensity. Her eyes were locked on mine, and there was a possessiveness in her touch that sent shivers down my spine.

"What's up with you?" I asked, trying to lighten the mood.

"Nothing," Maloi said, her voice clipped. "Just didn't like the way she was looking at you."

I raised an eyebrow. "Jealous much?"

Maloi's eyes flashed. "Maybe I am," she said, pulling me closer. "I don't like seeing other people flirt with you." My heart skipped a beat at her words. Maloi and I had always been close, but this was the first time she'd ever hinted at something more. The realization hit me like a freight train—I wanted her to be jealous. I wanted her to want me as much as I wanted her.

I leaned in, my lips brushing against her ear. "Good," I whispered. "Because I only want you."

Maloi's eyes widened, and for a moment, she looked stunned. Then, without warning, she crashed her lips against mine. The world around us disappeared as we kissed, all the pent-up feelings and unspoken words pouring out in that single moment.

When we finally pulled apart, both of us were breathless. Maloi's eyes were filled with a mix of desire and vulnerability that made my heart ache.

"I've wanted to do that for so long," she admitted, her voice barely above a whisper. "Me too," I confessed, a smile tugging at my lips. "So, what now?" Maloi's smile was pure sunshine, lighting up her face. "Now, we see where this goes," she said, taking my hand in hers. "Together."

As we danced the night away, I knew that whatever happened, we were in it together. And that was all I needed.
