Maloi Ricalde let out a heavy sigh as she walked down the bustling hallway of Benison High School. Her hands were full—a clipboard in one and a plastic bag filled with snacks in the other. The school's annual sports event was fast approaching, and as one of the moderators, her days were packed with preparations, organizing practice sessions, and making sure the players had everything they needed.

The sports event was in just two days, and today was one of the final practice sessions. The players were already on edge, working hard to perfect their techniques. As she moved through the halls, her mind wandered to the long checklist that needed to be completed before the event officially started. But there was something else—someone else—occupying her thoughts.

Jhoanna Robles.

A competitive badminton player with a fierce determination, Jhoanna had been trying to win Maloi's heart for quite some time. And despite Maloi's best efforts to keep things professional, she couldn't deny the way her heart fluttered whenever Jhoanna was around.

Maloi's train of thought was interrupted when she bumped into her friend and fellow moderator, Sheena Catacutan. Sheena had a mischievous glint in her eyes as she casually swung her clipboard.

"Ate Maloi!" Sheena called out with a grin.

"Oh, hey Shee," Maloi replied, balancing the snacks awkwardly as she came to a stop.

Sheena's grin widened as she glanced at the clipboard in Maloi's hand. "Wanna switch places?"

Maloi blinked in confusion. "Switch places? Why?"

Sheena shrugged, though her playful tone suggested she had something up her sleeve. "I've been stuck with the badminton team all week. I need a change of scenery. How about you take over, and I'll cover volleyball for you?"

Before Maloi could fully register what Sheena was suggesting, her friend swapped the clipboards and the plastic bags, handing over her own clipboard and the snacks meant for the volleyball team.

"Sheena, wait—" Maloi started, but Sheena was already heading in the opposite direction, throwing a wave over her shoulder.

"Good luck with the Badminton team!" Sheena called out, her voice echoing down the hallway.

Maloi let out a soft chuckle and shook her head, glancing down at the new clipboard in her hand. Her heart skipped a beat when she read the bold letters at the top of the sheet: BADMINTON TEAM.

The corners of Maloi's lips turned up in a smile. Sheena was always up to something, and it didn't take long for Maloi to understand the switch wasn't random at all. Sheena had given her the opportunity to be near Jhoanna without explicitly saying it.

"Clever girl," Maloi muttered to herself, unable to suppress her smile.

With a newfound sense of excitement, Maloi made her way toward the badminton court. The sounds of sneakers squeaking against the polished gym floor, the steady rhythm of rackets hitting shuttlecocks, and the occasional grunts of effort reached her ears before she even stepped inside.

Maloi carefully placed the bag of snacks and drinks on a nearby bench, her eyes instinctively searching the court for Jhoanna. It didn't take long for her gaze to land on the familiar figure, her heart skipping yet another beat.

Jhoanna was practicing hard, her every movement precise and focused. Her strong arms flexed as she swung the racket, her gaze never leaving the shuttlecock as it soared across the net. The intense look of concentration on her face made Maloi's chest tighten.
