There was nothing more I wanted then to be with Eleanor right now.
But sadly that was not an option.
And mostly I hated lying to her. I was sat across from my lawyer, mark, in his posh office and I felt incredibly out of place in my dark blue jeans and polo top.
I ran an anxious hand through my brown hair awaiting.
Mark cleared his throat "I emailed you most of the details and your mother of course and it's not looking great. Although the will said it was for you it's yet to be proven when he wrote it. Dylan claims as his mother was your late father's spouse, they should receive the entirety of his millions."
My head fell to my hands and I rubbed my eyes.
The stress I had been experiencing lately had been unbearable.
My father, who I hadn't seen since I was in 6th grade and we discovered he had been cheating on my mother with multiple woman, but specifically one for 10 years and he had a secret child for 9.
Dylan.
Yep he was my half brother.
My mom cried for days and days, she found out when she saw divorce papers on her desk next to a hand written letter from Dylan's mom. I don't know what it said but it was basically saying to my dad that her and Dylan could no longer be his dirty little secret and he needed to get rid of us.
He was on a business trip in Barbados at the time and we were long gone before he came back and I hadn't seen him since, well not until recently.
Then of course we moved near Jacob and Eleanor and mom found out she was pregnant with Dec and the wills supported us through it.
About a year ago, my dad asked to see me. I obliged just so I could tell him to fuck off just like he had done for the last 9 years.
We met in a cafe. Dylan was there too.
Dad told me he was sick with a terminal illness yet I had no sympathy for him.
Dylan was sat across from me staring me down. He looked like me, but shorter, scrawnier and nastier.
I hated him with every ounce of my being. Dylan stole my life. The one where I was happy. He replaced me in my father's eyes.
Much to my discomfort I gave Dylan my phone number so he could tell me when dad passed.
I got the message 7 months later.
I then got a phone call from his lawyer saying I had inherited 4 million dollars and his estate.
As much as I hated Dylan and his mom I gifted them the estate they had made their home. It was no comfort to me.
Yet they felt it was ludicrous that my father left me the money. Which I guess in some ways it was. They still wanted more and for the last 5 months we have been in an ongoing battle.
When I received the call from his lawyer I was sat round the table and I dropped my phone in my dinner.
"What is it sweetie" my mom asked
"It's dad, he's dead and he left me 4 million dollars - we don't have to worry about food or rent ever again." Dec cheered and mom froze.
"Oh my god" she whispered "OH MY GOD!!!" We got up and hugged and she weeped against my chest.
That was a day I would never forget. I no longer had to worry about my mom or Dec. I could now focus on getting into the nhl.
Mark coughed snapping me out of my day dream.
"But if they knew my father they would know he was a business oriented man, there is no way he would die with a will he was unhappy with!" I sighed falling back in my chair.
"I know Luke I totally agree it's just a matter of how we prove it. I'll keep in contact with you and your mother" he stood up and showed me out.
