The air was thick in my car as me and Jacob drove around aimlessly.
I cleared my throat in an attempt to encourage Jacob to talk.
Nothing.
He was in a deep thought, I could practically see the clogs in his head turning.
"So we are going straight home after the Easter game right?" I asked Jacob - something I genuinely wanted to know the answer to.
"Hmm? Oh yeh - mom's doing some kind of fancy ass dinner to hopefully celebrate our win - but you never know." He chuckled softly.
"Jacob"
"Yeah"
"I'm sorry I didn't get there earlier" I said gruffly.
We sat in silence.
"I know and I am too but it isn't your fault - you saved her bro and I'm forever grateful for that." He slapped my arm.
Yet the guilt I felt didn't go away.
*******
ELEANOR - 🙄❤️
Sent 8:47pmI chuckled down at my phone.
God I loved that girl.
Kyle groaned holding the bridge of his nose "dude I am so hungover it hurts" he told Benji before glancing to me "how's little Eleanor" he asked with a genuine concerned look across his face.
"She's okay - she's doing as well as she can." I said with a grimace.
*******
I stepped on the ice and I became alive.
My heart pounded harder, my eyes narrowed. I was here to win.
Jacob skated over too me just before the start of the 2nd half buzzer went off, fist bumping me.
We were wining 13-12 and I was determined not to let this win slip through my fingers.
Gliding through the other team as the buzzer went, I stole the puck, passing it to Reuben, who passed to Kyle, who scored.
The arena erupted as we all jumped on Kyle in celebration.
Right, back to the game.
Benji passed to some rookie, who passed to me,
BASH
Some dick from the other team barged me against the side, my head throbbed. My vision blurred.
Looking up in the crowd for Eleanor, whose face was creased with concern, that was the only thing I needed to make me feel better.
10 minutes left on the clock and the score was now 14-14.
We always liked to keep the audience on the edge of their seats, Benji always jokes.
Gracefully, yet with intense force, I skated down to the end of the pitch, making sure I was open, Reuben passed to me.
I aimed
I shot
I scored
The crowd erupted into screams and nothing made me feel better. Well other than Eleanor.
*******
"Honestly you two were AMAZING!" Eleanor giggled from the back seat.
"Stop it Eleanor don't boost his ego anymore" Jacob pointed to me accusingly.
Ignoring him, I kept my eyes on the road whilst they chatted away.
The feeling after winning a game was no other, I was overwhelmed with emotions.
