FIVE YEARS LATER.
Excitement ran through me. It always did when I took my seats.
Lola squeezed my hand. My successful lawyer best friend smiled at me. "He's going to be amazing E, they always are."
She was right. But it didn't stop me from worrying.
"Hey" Jacob said, ruffling my hair, pushing some popcorn into my hand before sitting next to Lola, planting a soft kiss on her lips.
Yep. Finally they had cut the bullshit and got together. They are now a crazy power duo with his fancy finance business and her law degree.
I on the other hand was an event planner and it was something I really enjoyed doing. And the pay wasn't half bad.
Munching my popcorn nervously, I bit my lip as the buzzer went. The chiefs skated onto the ice, my eyes immediately searching the ring for the number 48.
Found him.
Luke looked so gorgeous when he was in game mode. His brown hair floppy with some strands stuck to his head from the sweat and his body broad and intimidating as ever.
All 6'5 of him suddenly became so agile, like a figure skater on the ice, yet he had the power to push people into the wall who were taller and larger than him.
The game seemed to fly by and soon we were down to the last 3 minutes of the game.
13-13 all.
2 minutes left.
1 minute left.
Holden passes Luke the ball, he skates down the ice. He shoots HE SCORES.
The arena erupted into cheers.
"YESSSSSS" we all screamed, Jacob wrapped his arms around us both, jumping up and down.
That was my boyfriend.
*****
Luke ran out of the changing room, his hair freshly washed. He swooped me up into his arms.
"You were so amazing" I squealed grabbing his face and kissing his cheeks repeatedly.
He smiled "all because of your support baby"
I knew it wasn't true but it still made me grin from ear to ear.
"Let's go out - just you and me?" He asked spinning me around.
"Yes okay! Let's go now!" I told him excitedly, dragging him towards our car.
******
The feeling I felt when I was in Luke was like I was floating, and if I fell I knew he would catch me.
His hand slipped into mine and as we headed towards the restaurant.
In the foyer Luke pulled me to face him.
"Eleanor"
"Yes Luke" I smiled at him innocently.
He cleared his throat before reaching for his back pocket and getting down on one knee.
"Eleanor wills, ever since I met you, you have been the sun and I have been orbiting around you. You brighten my life and my soul and a life without you is one I don't want so, my beautiful clever, funny, Eleanor will you marry me" he said staring deep into my eyes.
This couldn't be happening
Pinch me
I must be dreaming.
But I'm not. This amazing man who was down on one knee was my boyfriend who loved me so much. And I love him too.
A tear rolled down my face. "YES OF COURSE I WILL!" I laughed through my happy tears before he pushed the most gorgeous diamond ring up my finger and swinging me around.
I was in shock.
He took my hand and lead me into our favourite restaurant - the Italian one we first went to all those years ago, Into a private dining room we rarely went into.
The lights were off.
I looked to Luke in confusion. He smiled flicking on the lights.
"SUPRISE!!!"
"Oh my god" I began weeping. I can't believe he did this for me.
The college crew were all sat around the table.
The people I cared about most in the world were here to celebrate our engagement.
Lola, Jacob, Benji, Kyle, Reuben, Ollie, Mia and Belle were all stood around the table, with balloons, presents and a banner reading 'congratulations'
I looked up at Luke who was staring down at me anxiously.
"This is the best thing I could have ever imagined. Thank you." I sniffled.
He picked me and kissed me.
"I love you more than the earth itself beautiful" he whispered.
God I loved Luke walker and he sure loved me.
