Finding out Remus was a werewolf didn't push us apart. If anything, it brought us closer together. We were so close, James started a rumor that we were in love. The rumor earned James a nasty bat-bogey hex every time Professors weren't watching me.
I felt honored that I was the only one who knew the truth about Remus. Sirius, James, and Peter didn't even know! I took it upon myself to help Remus make up excuses for his mysterious absences, like his cat at had a nasty temper. Although I was the only one who figured it out, I tried convincing Remus he needed to tell his other friends. If he kept the secret for too long, it could ruin their friendship. But I understand his reasoning for wanting to keep it just between us. Not everyone was accepting of werewolves.
"So Remus," I began as we sat in the common room playing a game of chess. "What's dear Sirius planning to do to me this weekend?"
A coy smile played on Remus' lips as he moved his knight to take my pawn. The marble pieces slashed each other apart, leaving bits of rubble on the board.
"You two are exactly the same, you know that."
"What? Me and Sirius?! How dare you insult me like that!" I gasped and moved my queen back to protect my king.
"He asked me the exact question about you this morning," Remus laughed, deciding on his next move.
"So it's safe to assume he's going to prank me tomorrow?"
"So it's safe to assume you're going to prank him tomorrow?" Remus mimicked. "Look, Lex, I'm good friends with both you and Sirius. You both know this, and are so stubborn that you won't tell me what you are planning to do to the other! But if one of you did tell me what you were planning, I wouldn't tell..."
"Not a chance Rem. Not a chance. Good try though," I replied, moving my knight to take his queen. "But when something happens to me tomorrow, I'm holding you slightly to blame."
"Funny, Sirius also said the something along the lines of that this morning! Anyways, checkmate," Remus called and nodded to his queen, which had a clear path to my king.
"And Remus wins again! For like the hundredth time in a row!" I complained, sitting back in the scarlet chair. He always won. I sucked at chess.
"Not in a row... The other night you won!" Remus denied modestly.
"No! You would've won that one, but you forfeited because it was late!"
"And it's getting late again. Good night, and I'd sleep with an eye open if I were you," Remus winked and packed up his chess board.
Sirius was planning something to prank me during the night. Little did he know I had a plan to get him too.

Wand lit and outstretched in front of me, I crept through the corridors, keeping my eyes and ears open for any signs of a teacher. Paintings on the walls glared and complained as I walked past with my light, waking them up. My footsteps echoed on the stone floor through the silence, leaving me to think my feet were loud enough to wake up the entire castle. The halls were eerie at night.
As it was the end of November, there were still fall decorations littering the corridors. Someone must've spent a lot of time decorating the place, with pumpkins, skeletons, and candles lighting up each of the suits of armor. During the day, the decorations were stunning, but as I walked around, everything seemed spooky and sent shivers down my spine. I had a feeling someone was following me.
Finally, I made it to the potions dungeon. Not surprisingly, the heavy door was locked.
"Alohamora," I whispered and heard the knob whir and click, signifying I succeeded in unlocking the door. Quietly, I latched the door behind me.
