"You like him again." Marlene said suddenly. I looked at her in shock as she sat down across from me in the compartment. Lily waggled her eyebrows at me too. We just had this exact conversation before Marlene walked in.
"What are you talking about?" I asked and stopped gazing out the Hogwarts Express window at Sirius and James, who were saying goodbye to the Potters.
"Black of course!" Marlene laughed and tapped a finger on the glass, motioning towards Sirius.
"Why would you think that?"
"Because you're all mopey and you keep looking at him like he just kicked your puppy." Marlene scoffed. "Lils, can I have one of your chocolate frogs?"
"One." Lily replied. My eyes were glued on Sirius again as some fifth year girls crowded around him. I wasn't watching Lily, but I knew she was clutching her precious chocolate frogs protectively- apparently, they were some sort of gift for Dumbledore. I guess he did some sort of favor for her in the Order business and the kind hearted girl wanted to thank him with chocolates.
"Lily, what did Dumbledore do for you anyways?" I sighed, averting my eyes from Sirius when a Ravenclaw gave him a hug.
"Well, I did decently well on my O.W.L.s..." Lily began, her cheeks turning pink. That was a modest lie- I wouldn't be surprised if the girl got all Outstandings. "And he got me an interview with Alastor Moody, so I could shadow him some and I would be set on the path for becoming an-"
"Mad-Eye Moody? The Auror?" I cut her off. An image of the wild, tough, Auror in the Order popped into my mind. He was always yelling about 'constant vigilance' and his creepy magical eye sent shivers down my spine. "You want to be an Auror?"
"Yes, I was thinking about it!" Lily said exasperatedly. "I mean, it would be pretty cool, wouldn't it? He told me I could take someone else who was considering becoming an Auror too so I was wondering if you wanted to come?"
I sized up my feisty best friend. She was petite and friendly- very different from the hardened witches and wizards who were Aurors in the Order. I could hardly imagine the pretty redhead hunting down a dark wizard like You-Know-Who.
"Who wants to become an Auror?" James asked when he entered the compartment, Sirius, Remus, and Peter trailing behind him. "Is it you Vix? I think we should talk to Mad-Eye at the next Order meeting- I'd like to become an Auror too! I've been trying to talk to Dumbledore for ages about him and visiting the Auror office..."
"Obviously, you don't have the magic touch." I laughed and Lily blushed.
"What do you mean?" James looked at me in bewilderment. He tossed his trunk on the shelf above my head and sat across from me next to Marlene. Lily sighed in relief when he didn't sit next to her.
"Lily has a meeting with Mad-Eye."
James looked at Lily in awe. She shot me a murderous look and glared at James, who was staring at her like she grew another head.
"Evans!" James exclaimed. "Take me with you to see Mad-Eye!"
"First of all, it's Alastor Moody to you, and why would I take you with me to see him?" Lily huffed. James suddenly jumped out of his seat and onto the floor. His hands were clasped tightly together and he got on his knees in front of Lily, starting to grovel.
