Siruis' hand kept sliding lower and lower down the back of my dress until I swatted his hand.
"My mother is just behind that door." I scolded. Just as I said that, the heavy front door swung open and my mother ran out.
"Lexi!" My mum exclaimed and wrapped me in a bone crushing hug. Sirius gave me a bemused smile as she hugged him as well.
"Mum, why don't you let them in?" My brother Felix appeared behind her. His wife stood by his side and kissed me on the cheek as I walked by.
Marlene and her parents were already seated in the dining room. Luckily I convinced Sirius to dress up for the event because the three McKinnons were all wearing dress robes and dresses. Marlene grinned at me and poured a cup of tea. She momentarily glanced at Sirius and frowned. I knew she was upset that Remus couldn't make it as her date.
Felix announced that dinner would begin shortly, and Brittany took a seat next to the McKinnons as I settled in to the lavish seat at my brother's dining table. His house was more extravagant than I expected it to be. As if reading my mind, a house elf suddenly appeared, bringing a tray of soups with it. The gathering with family was oddly formal, but Sirius seemed right at home with it. I guess his family would take him to pureblood dinners and events that were more formal and strict than this all the time, before they disowned him, that is.
"Would you like a tour of the rest of the house?" Felix asked the group after we ate a filling and delicious meal. He stood up and motioned for everyone to follow him.
"House" was the humble thing to call Felix's new living space. He was living in a mansion. I had no idea just how successful he was as a wandmaker. From marble flooring to diamond chandeliers, the new Stryker Manor had it all. Even Sirius seemed impressed, and I knew he saw some amazing houses of purebloods before.
Felix's hand rested on a silver doorknob, leading to the only room in the house he hadn't shown us yet. He turned to Brittany with a loving smile and opened the door slowly.
The room was bathed in a pale, silver light from an enchanted orb in the center of the ceiling. Someone did an excellent job in enchanting the room to be peaceful and beautiful. Blue, miniature, two dimensional sheep bounded around on the walls of the room in silence. Although the room was smaller than many of the others in the house, a rocking chair, a bookshelf, and a perfect white crib fit easily in the room. I couldn't stop the grin from rising on my face as I realized what this meant.
"Brittany? Felix?" Mrs. McKinnon gasped. The smile on her face spread from one ear to the other.
"We're pregnant." Brittany and Felix announced in unison.
The room erupted into cheers. My mother even started crying. I was elated, and even Sirius beamed at the happy couple. Mr. and Mrs. McKinnon kissed their daughter on the cheek multiple times and kept congratulating the two of them. In the dark times, it was nice to hear some wonderful news.
"I'm going to be an aunt!" I realized. Marlene jumped up and down beside me, tears of joy streaming down her face.
"Congrats, mate." Sirius beamed and clapped Felix on the back.
"Your father would be so proud..." My mother cried, a smile on her face.
Felix and Brittany ushered everyone back down the stairs. We all sat in the dining room for hours, laughing, joking and asking happy questions to the soon to be parents, like one big happy family. As it was nearing one in the morning, I stood up to leave, but Felix stopped me.
"Lexi, can I talk to you for a moment?" Felix interrupted the festivities. I looked up and smiled, but for some reason his eyes showed no happiness.
