For the next few days, I decided not to even hang out with Sirius, James, Remus, and Peter during the day, when they weren't sneaking around. I thought maybe they'd come clean if they realized how mad I was, but to no avail.
"Marlene!" I whispered urgently as Filch started walking down the corridor towards us, Mrs. Whiskers hot on his heels. "Ready?"
"Ready," she confirmed, her brown eyes shining. Although I wasn't speaking with the boys, my sadness was nearly nonexistent due to all the pranks Marlene and I got to pull together.
"Three... Two... One... Reducto!" I shouted. Right when he walked between my pillar and Marlene's pillar, the giant snow ball we hung like a chandelier came exploding down on him and his annoying cat.
"I'll get you two!" Snowman-like Filch screamed after us as we ran, trying to find his cat in the snow pile at his feet. Marlene and I kept running, knowing Filch would be after us.
"Ouch!" I ran into something in the middle of the hall. I flew backwards with Marlene as Sirius, James, Remus, and Peter appeared in our path, James stuffing his invisibility cloak in his robes to hide it from Marlene.
"You guys!" I shouted.
"Lexi and girl I do not know the name of!" Sirius shouted back. "What are you doing?"
"Running from Filch, and this is Marlene." I glanced over my shoulder to see if Filch was wheezing after us. "What were you doing?!"
"Just heading in," Remus said before Sirius could say anything.
"From your secret meetings?" I asked, although I knew that was the answer. "It's getting late Marlene, I'll see you tomorrow?"
"Maybe... But we were going to have a Hufflepuff New Year's party..." Marlene trailed off and wouldn't look me in the eye. She knew I would probably be alone without her.
"Alright... I'll see you Marlene..." I sighed as she walked off, in a direction I can only guess leads to the Hufflepuff common room. "I assume you guys are going to the common room? Or at are you going to do something else secretively?"
"No, we're going back." Remus said guiltily. James held the cloak up and I sighed, stepping under it with the four boys. Five people is way too much to fit under this cloak.
When we got back to the Gryffindor tower, I was planning on just continuing to shun everyone and go to my dorm, but Sirius stopped me.
"Lexi, so you're not doing anything tomorrow, right?" Sirius asked standing in my way of the stairs.
"No..." I sighed, thinking about how I was just planning on spending my New Year alone, possibly with Altheda.
"Well, we were thinking about having a small party, why don't you spend New Year's with us?" Sirius asked hopefully.
"It will be just us five, right?" I said slowly.
"Well... It's the full moon..." Remus spoke up from behind me. My angry expression softening, I turned to Remus, who was already looking a little down.
"I assume you won't be ditching me to do whatever you guys usually do?"
"Well..." James cut in. "We'll just do it earlier..."
"Alright... You know I'll be here, alone," I mumbled. Just before I left to go to my dorm, I saw Remus sadly looking out the window at the nearly full moon. Spending New Year's in that house... "And Remus? I'm sorry, I wish I could help..."
At that, I left them in the common room, probably so they could do something else secretively.
