Chapter 37

I slowly peeled my eyes open only to be blinded by a bright light. The initial shock of it made me shut my eyes and rub them. Lifting my arm up felt like a chore, it just felt so heavy. There's a constant beep that is making my head hurt. It's piercing my ears.

Eventually I opened my eyes and felt as though I was led flat on my back. With all of the strength within me I lifted my head up to see that i was in a hospital room. What the fuck happened? I looked down to see sticky pads attached to my chest in my heart area and an IV drip in my hand.

My head was still hurting from that beeping. Why the hell is it still going? I looked to my left to see that there was a heart monitor keeping track of my heart rate- that's what the beeping is. Just as I dropped my head back on the bed out of exhaustion, the door to my room opened.

"Oh hello sleepyhead," a nurse walked in holding a clip bored and a pen. "I'm glad to see you are awake, would you like to sit up?" She seemed very lovely, her voice was so calm and happy. I nodded to her question and she came over to press a button on the side of my bed, causing the back of it to rise.

When I was sat up I got a better view of the room. It was small and I could see a chair in the corner with a plastic bag of my things. My eyes were still hurting from the light but the more I looked at the bag the more I noticed what was in it. I could see the white jumper and blue jeans I was wearing to the shopping mall a few days ago. On the floor next to the chair was the shopping bags full of the things I bought that day.

"How are you feeling lovely?" The nurse was looking at the heart rate machine and writing something down on the clip bored. "Your heart rate has gone back to normal which is great."

"I'm feeling okay." My voice was scratchy from lack of water. The nurse noticed and poured me a cup of water from the jug that was on the table next to me. She handed it over but it felt hard to reach out for it. My arm felt like it weighed a tonne. "Sorry, my whole body feels so heavy."

The nurse giggled while taking the water back off me after I had taken a couple of sips. "Don't worry about that, it's normal."

"How long have I been out for?" I asked.

"Two and a half days, to jog your memory a bit you were at the mall when you were found."

I tried my best to think back to that day and it hit me that this is where I had an encounter with a man that day. He told me that bad people were after Harry so I ran away from him, then he injected me with something. That must have made me pass out.

"You can go home today love, now that you're awake I'll just have to do a couple of tests but we can call someone to come get you, is there anyone that we can call?" The nurse asked standing at the bottom of my bed.

I debated in my head for a while about asking her to call Harry, but realistically I knew he wouldn't answer. He probably doesn't even know that this happened. I told the nurse that she can call Sophie, I told her Soph's number and she went to go call her.

Just as she was walking to the door she stopped to turn to talk to me again. "Oh yes, I've just got to let you know about your visitors, I'm sorry love but you only had one. A boy, he looked around your age with long brown curly hair."

My heart skipped a beat when she said that.

"He stayed for hours the day you were bought here, he sat in that chair and held your hand the entire time you was here. Could this have possibly been a boyfriend?" I almost smiled at her but part of me wanted to cry.

Harry came to visit me.

"Oh no, I don't have a boyfriend. It sounds like you're describing my brother." I lied through my teeth. I hope Harry didn't kiss me or anything otherwise the nurse is going to have a funny view on our family.

The nurse smiled and left me with my thoughts. My eyes were welling with tears at the thought that Harry came here, he knew what happened...
