I stood in the middle of the gym, the bright lights glaring down as the judges looked on.
Everything around me felt like it was moving in slow motion, but not in a way that made me nervous—just…detached. Sunoo stood beside me, his usual bright smile in place as if this was just another one of our daily routines. I nodded back at him, not because I needed the encouragement, but because it felt like the right thing to do.
I wasn’t anxious or excited; I wasn’t really feeling much of anything. I knew the routine by heart, knew we could pull it off.
But what I couldn’t shake was the nagging thought at the back of my mind: What would this get me, like the last time?
I’d been down this road before, and I knew how quickly things could turn.
Taking a deep breath, I pushed the thought aside.
Whatever happened next, I’d deal with it when it came.
"Good afternoon guys! Thank you for taking the time to audition for this try out, you're all amazing!", Liz says from table in front of us, accompanied by three pretty girls just like her.
The two sitting the right looked like almost twins that it made me wonder if they really are, and the one on her left have this cute curled two ponytails which reminds me a lot of those cute anime characters.
The way she also brought herself made it seemed like she came out of Japan too. I mean, she have those cute dangling ghibli keychains hanging from her bag.
I can even hear her telling to the other two to dance with her about some tiramisu song later on.
But turning back to those whose standing in front of them.
It's me, Sunoo and at least ten more girls and ten more boys.
"We only need new eleven cheerleaders for this year, so unfortunately some of you will not be able to be included. Come back next year though and we'll be sure to finally got a spot for you! Right, Leeseo?", one of the twin looking girl says and leans to the one sitting beside her who I now knew as Leeseo.
"You're all going to enjoy it, I can assure you!", Leeseo replies while looking at all of us, flashing a genuine cute grin.
"I'm going to call off some of your names and if your name is included, you're going to join the squad", the one with cute keychains says.
I can't get over the fact that the more I looked at the cheerleaders in front of me, the more I thought they were all beautiful.
I have this feeling that I wanted to know all of their names.
From what it looks like, Liz is the blonde one with dimples, Leeseo seems to be the youngest and is clinging to the one she seems to be twins alike who I can hear from where I stood beside Sunoo is named Gaeul.
"What's her name?", I asked curiously to Sunoo with my head nodding to the last girl in the table.
He seems shocked that I was curious but he still answered anyway, "That's Naoi Rei, one of the campus crush along the other girls in the table"
I can only nod, interested to look more at this girl named Rei. She seems sweet and cool in her own way as she graced all of us with her dazzling smile.
Then Liz began to call off names, "Gehlee, Nana, Hyeonju, Elisia, Kotoko, Yunha, Harua, Taki, Maki, Sunoo and Jiyoo"
The girls that's been called before me let out a few cheers as some of them even high-fived each other while Sunoo literally widen his eyes when his eyes landed on the one named Kotoko in the line before us.
